And supposing we're too many, is the adaptive challenge the maintenance of a stable population through population control? In a past life, I studied demography and I can confirm that indeed we are too many. But numbers is only part of the story. The real challenge is the behavior that humanity has adopted - especially uncontrolled consumption - which puts the entire ecosystem at risk. If every person on Earth attained the same ecological footprint as, say, America (which lifestyle we all seem to aspire to) the Earth would not survive as we know it. About sex and procreation these are the key instruments through which we propagate. My expectation is that evolution is right now working to adapt us to the challenge of strained Earth carrying capacity. One such adaptation is sex without leading to propagation. In other words masturbation, porn, homosexuality etc. I suspect the rise of disease epidemics is an other evolutionary adaptation that we shall see a lot more off in coming years, especially as social and political progress have almost eliminated one of the most efficient tools of number control, war. Personification of evolution and giving him personal attributes e.g. '(he) is now working to adapt us ,,,' Even society, '(he) needed to make use of (something). Like God. Transformations.

I think it was a Marxist philosopher who once said that 'those things that humans do not wish to deal with, they personify.' As I saw on another thread we are lazy by nature and would prefer not to think, especially about difficult things. Instead we have evolved a system to do our thinking for us.
