Situation.

1. You are employed.
2. Co.is presently training you at their hq.
3. You have been assured of better income.
4. Your Immediate boss has suddenly taken to stealing most glory for your hard work...kills the zeal and drains energy.
5. You really love your job,but feel drained because of point 4. It's like being subdued, chocked but you learn to smile through it all.
6. A greater position and good package comes knocking at your door from a different co.without you seeking and leaves you at cross roads.

What to do?

A cousin to a friend of an uncles's sister's husband in this position.

compare the working environment between the two companies, compare how they treat their employees, compare how much they pay, compare avenues to develop yourself. then toss a coin coz all those don't really mean a shit.

given how the cousin to a friend of an uncles's sister's husband is always in wazua and nigerian fora i cant see how they then do any constructive work, leave alone having any glory to be stolen.

oh it gets tougher. Both sides made contact with the friend today. 2 good packages to choose from next week. Can one be too loyal to the employer? Can an employer be trusted with your future?

Take this advise.

Never ever ever in your life accept a counter offer from your current employer.

NEVER EVER

I concur. the fact that they have had to give a counter-offer in order to hold on to you (assuming you go for it) means some doubt has already been 'planted' in their minds that one day you just might leave. You can imagine how this would tend to poison your relationship with them.
Life is like playing a violin solo in public and learning the instrument as one goes on.

No, not really,I think you are stretching it too far.
Even though it happens, this is like North and South Pole.
All employers know that employees are dispensable,so they would not consider going to extreme lengths such as this. I mean you've got to be extremely unique and valuable, which imo is wrong in a Co. because one ends up manipulating the boss and leaving a dent the moment they leave.
It's blackmail and I wouldn't pull such a crazy stunt if I were an employer.

Then stay at your current job.

But the fact remains, taking a counter offer is not a very good idea as a long term strategy.... not when you have another option - a "good" option. The best would be you push for an even better offer in your prospective new employer.

Never ever leave a job, project, dreams because of a person or people. There are over 6 billion people in the world and you cannot result to running away every time one offends you, you could be jumping from the frying pan... The company you would want to move to might have the best profile on paper but does it have profiles on individuals too? Will you have the boss you want? I doubt.
Ask yourself this question and you'll know the right thing to do; If your boss was removed, would you still consider leaving? If no, then you should stay, God has a way of removing obstacles from the road and creating detours if you believe in Him and pray.
Now about people, don't worry too much especially if you are at the point of leaving, after all all your boss can do is fire you, not kill you or send you to prison...

I agree with Wendz, the money can be confusing and counter offers even more confusing because of the 'better the devil you know' mentality so ignore the carrot/s and things will become clear, after all if you deserved it, they'd have given it to you before.

BBI will solve it

Counter offers are usually a stop gap measure as they try to find your replacement(fire you)
