@Sasha am no guru at all in this biz,but i know this unit would be around 550-600K on duty.

If i get the exact figure i will be glad to share.

@giddy: First registered 17.3.2003,1782cc. Also if you wouldn't mind, please show us how you calculate the exact duty!

@reddevil: Wow! So the duty is more than the landed cost?

According to KRA the duties payable for car importation are as follows:

Import duty at 25%,Excise duty at 20% and VAT at 16% are paid cumulatively and in that order. Ie

Import duty = 25% of the C.I.F ( Cost. Insurance. Freight)

Excise duty = 20% of ( C.I.F + Import duty)

VAT = 16% of ( C.I.F + Import duty + Excise duty)

C.I.F is also known as the Customs value or landed cost.

You will also spend about 50,000 kshs per unit for port charges including clearance agent.

You will also spend about 5,000 kshs excluding fuel to get the unit on your doorsteps.

@mungai - considering all thing in order & you have a good/efficient clearing agent, what is the length of time it should take from the time the vessel docks to get the car on the road (ready to leave the port)?

@mungai;

Customs value can be considerably different from the true CIF cost paid to the supplier.

My agent says that KRA compares CIF to depreciated CRSP (Current Retail Selling Price) and uses the higher of the two

@ Jkmwatha

It takes 4 - 6 weeks for shipping to Mombasa. Then about 1 week for clearance at the port if you have a good agent.
