not used to touch sana but ready to learn. I said hapo juu that i currently operate blackberry so advise me accordingly. I'm a having browser engaging guys on Wazua and other forums from my phone.

If you're used to a keypad you might get frustrated by touch when it comes to typing. Do you have opera on your phone?

Don't get that, what browser are you using?

sorry keyboard malfunction I meant to say I'm a HEAVY browser. Yes I do have and love opera mini.

Personally I've always loved and dealt with Sony Ericsson. They changed they game with the walkman. I don't really have an issue with Xperia ray but I doubt it has HTML5.Any phone you buy now should have it so you don't have to play the catch up game. Opera mini also has another product, opera mobile which is better than mini in many aspects.Disclosure, haven't used the ray but I have an Xperia on windows.Either if you can't access opera mobile from your current phone the upgrade will be good.

Snapshot of how I see smartphones in Kenya. Sony Ericsson, now sony is and I believe will always be Kenya's "iPhone".Biased maybe.People have problems syncing their iPhones. Samsung will replace Nokia as the phone everyone has but Nokia has an opportunity. Its recent, runs on windows phone 7/8. Its has fewer apps and fewer viruses but Kenyans have a long relationship with Nokia. Be careful though, windows mobile, windows phone 7 and windows phone 8 all have different aspects to them but the direction windows phone 8 is taking is more permanent.Safer bet. I don't like talking about blackberrys.

Uncertainty is certain.Let go

Why the need for HTML5? And Opera as an important product for a smart phone is kind of strange. 99% of the time I access the web on my phone using Apps. I only use the browser directly (and rarely so) for sites like wazua without Apps and then rarely for long on the phone .

What sorts of syncing problems are those with iPhones? There is no upgrade path from Windows Phone 7 to 8 - the latter is a total remake. So it is best to stay away from any WP 7 phones, same with non Blackberry 10 phones. On Sony phones haven't seen any in the wild here in Kenya. Out of interest, who uses them?

html5 is a powerful standard. Gives more options to both the individual and the developers. It can be used to make apps for all phones that have rather than one app for each phone. With html5,you can also manage better how smartphones interact with websites without changing so much of the website. Its basically less powerful than apps on the phone but more inclusive for both desktop and smartphone.

iPhones,to the majority is a completely new technology. Its admired but not out there enough for everyone to understand its potential. You are so right about windows phone 7 upgrade to windows phone 8. Windows has been changing approaches but windows phone 8 is more in tune with windows 8.

Sony's are around but not so much. That's where they get their "prestige" from. They are also perceived to be complicated but with android, not so much.

Iphone is a pretty simple phone to use out of the box. In fact syncing it is pretty easy. You just plug it into your comp and iTunes does the rest. Like they claim it just works. That's why I wonder where the syncing problem you talked of was coming from.

I would imagine that a phone would be premium (?) coz it's a cut above the rest or premiumly priced. Find it weird that people can find Sony prestigious just coz people don't like it enough to buy it. You are seriously the first Kenyan I have heard thinking along those lines about a Sony phone.

Think of the broader market, how many Kenyans even if you were to give them an iPhone would know what iTunes is.People like Sony, they just don't want to understand it. It then becomes perceived as something different even though it might not be.But I bet you'll start seeing Xperias more often. Then again, maybe I'm biased

Must be a bias. smile smile I would believe the Kenyans with iPhones would know what iTunes is. Interestingly I have been seeing a good number of iPhones in the wild. 3G and 3GS mostly with students and 4 and 4S (anecdotal yes but these seem to be the favorites of Somalis). 5 have only seen like a handful. Sumsungs are all over. The guys really know how to capture the market.
