Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew.

First they came for the socialists, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for KQ employees, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a KQ employee.

Then they came for me, and there was no one left to speak for me.

Dear Former KQ Staff,

How are you. You have been selected since your work is to climb people only.

Due to the current financial situation caused by the slowdown of economy,
Management has decided to implement a scheme to put workers of 40 years of
age and above on early retirement.

This scheme will be known as RAPE (Retire Aged People Early).
Persons selected to be RAPED can apply to management to be eligible for
the SHAFT scheme (Special Help After Forced Termination).

Persons who have been RAPED and SHAFTED will be reviewed under the SCREW
programme (Scheme Covering Retired Early Workers). A person may be RAPED
once,SHAFTED twice and SCREWED as many times as Management deems appropriate.

Persons who have been RAPED can only get AIDS (Additional Income for
Dependants & Spouse) or HERPES (Half Earnings for Retired Personnel Early
Severance). Obviously persons who have AIDS or HERPES will not be SHAFTED
or SCREWED any further by Management. Persons who are not RAPED and are
staying on will receive as much SH!T (Special High Intensity Training) as
possible.

Management has always prided itself on the amount of SH!T it gives
employees. Should you feel that you do not receive enough SH!T, please
bring to the attention of your Supervisor. They have been trained to give
you all the SH!T you can handle.

Your Golden handshake will be sent via MPESA

Sincerely,
Tait Ass.

My head is spinning. If pilots too can be outsourced what then is the business of KQ?

To transport passengers and cargo from point A to point B, not to employ people, even the pilots and that's why we have autopilots.

Older generations aircrafts had 4 cockpit crew; pilot and co-pilot, flight engineer and navigator.

Dont be stupid. The planes cannot move themselves from point A to B.

Kq pilots are not being outsourced. For now. KALPA has a standing agreement with Kq which prevents this. And also foreign pilots have to convert to a kenyan CPL. But the day is coming ...and soon when KQ will mow down the agreement with KALPA ...its just a matter of time.
Pilots out there are a frustrated lot, with global aviation still being bleak, there are pilots who will do anything to keep flying, keep the hours up and licences current, that means they will take rock bottom wages. This is how management of airlines treat crew. The net is full of sob stories ..BA, Qantas, Ryanair, American Airlines ...etc etc ...Aviation is a rude business. And Naikuni is just getting started. You can take that to the bank.

I think everybody is frustrated and not just the pilots. They've used to smooth sailing but what they might be beginning to experience ain't something new to the other careers.
KQ has been training its pilots, sending them to SA, Ethiopia and UK for training, all expenses footed by the airline. Aren't such pilots safe from the axe?
KQ ain't the gov't, just to be employing people without considering their economic value.
If one can be retrenched, they are not that worth to the entity.

2012 - the year when the airline industry dived into the pit... IATA gave a serious warning back in March 2012 about airlines going bankrupt by end of 2012 early 2013. I expect to see airlines getting nationalized next year around the world! As usual the tax payer will be left holding the poopbag...

The cancer is everywhere;

American Eagle, the regional-flying sister of American Airlines, is seeking to throw out labor contracts with mechanics and other ground workers.

Flight attendants overwhelmingly approved a new contract.

The company asked a federal bankruptcy judge on Friday to let it cancel contracts covering mechanics, dispatchers and ground school instructors.

@ mkeiyd - KQ used to pay 100% but nowadays u get the pilots repay back their training cost fully.

I still have this feeling KQ will report a loss for H1 - why the urgency to restructure their staffing, although they are growing?
