Its possible. You need to work out the design first so that there is no space wastage. Assuming a 35m2 2 bedroomed house at kes 15k per m2=525k.
A 35 m2 2 bedroomed house is very very very very small but doable. The design will be like the chinese typical house plan with a tiny tiny living room cum kitchen plus 2 tiny tiny bedrooms.

Possible but with no finishing, hata plastering may not be possible. The money can do the outer structure, simple roofing and cheap external doors.

I would suggest that you consider designing a loft bedroom house

sitting room and kitchen... no separating walls. bathroom walled

Then stair case to loft where bed wardrobes and a bath room are also located.

Minimalist but with spacious sitting room, small kitchen.

Sad Thats a budget for the foundation only.
start searching for 1M more.
a neighbor in the adjacent plot is already doing his.his Fundi told me that the foundation plus walling blocks cost him 250,000.I think its possible to have the shell of the house with 500k since I will personally supervise the work so I expect little waste and a strong bargain.
My suggestion, why not have a spacious design that definitely costs more to build but caters for current and future needs, then construct the full foundation including the slab and from there construct the 3 bedrooms and use one as sitting room as you gather more energy to do the lest God willing. Thanks

I'd like to know if 500,000/= can build a decent self-contained 2 bedroomed house in Lower Kabete(Red Soil).

I intend to direct the in-house loo to an existing pit latrine, so no septic tank to be build. (I hope doing this is legal).

Kindly give ideas.

with 500k you will put up the shell, doors and windows....Expect the roof to chew quite a chunk of the money then you can move in...
Itabidi you budget another 500K for sanitary & basic finishes.
