@kabz, have u watched the videos? Is the interpretation true? ... Imagine you own a vernacular station, wont u hesitate before playing any song touching on the cut? Hutia ngoige by wa Kioi has a contentious line too. Hutia ngoige nduri wekwo ati, hutia ngoige ukoragwo wi omera, where do we draw the line?

I mean is the translation correct? Any Gikuyu speaker who has verified?

if you do a word for word translation the meaning gets lost, coz they have used a lot of sayings and religious connotations (actually they are heavily based on religion and politics) so interpreting the same is a bit muddy.

I don't think there is much in the songs, just some guys trying to make some extra cash.

Check link in the first post for brief translation of some of them.

the problem with that translation is that, its only translated some bits of the songs thus messing the whole context.

People are getting carried away for nothing,
please point out the hate expression from the song you have referred to.
I personally don't like the song, but hate speech ? no, is it worth being investigated ? no, I don't even understand why its receiving all this coverage

Here is some hate speech for you.

I think Kibunja and his team are just toothless lions and they have done nothing, don't do anything and will never do anything to anyone anyhow.

If they still want to wait for the "official" interpretation of the songs, then exactly what do they do in those offices other than get free tax payer money.

It was on youtube even mzungus are commenting on the three songs. Arrest them, then let them go tetea themselves mbele.

But Mzalendo Kibunja and his smile are still "investigating". Their very presence in those offices is hate speech.

Hold it!!

NCIC has to do its own translation of the lyrics and do proper investigations lest they end up getting an embarrassment in court!

Remember the NTV clip that sought to interpret Mareciria Kibaki ni kihii kiao to mean 'they think Kibaki is uncircumcised'?You have to get your own translation and that's why I was asking if there is anyone who had watched the videos and if the translation was accurate.

@Lolest, the ones you mention are not. The CONTEXT is totally different. Saddest thing is, Muigai is a gospel musician!

Context?

According to the link provided, the artistes have insulted RAO . These two songs appear to insult the community(esp Kamande's)

Many times, in disgust! They are played in almost every watering hole. I'm still surprised yu are defending these hate mongers!! A long time back, I insinuated that UK would make the worst president in Kenya. This would of course be exacerbated by the see no evil hear no evil attitude by his crowd. Now his choir boys are keen to send him to jail ASAP, I smile at the series of mis steps, for the love of my dear motherland.

I am defending them? No, far be it for me to defend anyone who wants me to hate my friends from the lakeside. I wanted a confirmation from someone who has managed to watch the videos and understands Gikuyu.

I am yet to watch them.

Laughing out loudly I'm a kyuk, I have watched them I know what they mean. Every kikuyu I have met understands what they mean and they are in shock.

You can of course go argue for them in Kibunja's sessions but everyone who has heard them and knows kikuyu knows exactly what they mean. No need for interpreters.

I wont go argue for them. I have a clear bias against one of them(Muigai) whose political songs since 2008 have been trying to make Kikuyus feel bitter about the PEV.

What's wrong with asking for verification? Ama the guy who did the original translation is the pied piper of hamelin?

Ditto!

His (Wa Njoroge) are usually very graphic, (imagine if watched by the kin of the man being slashed with a machete) they're without warning, and has a way of raising emotions from the target audience. ABK!!!

No, you're not. You're an internet handle.
