I worked very long hours at times. The longest on weekends (coz no shule) yet had assignments to do. All work , no play made me a dull boy... My father did not have the money to fund me...
My first full-time job was 60+ hours (without travel included). And I continued working PT too. I then left the PT job to concentrate on my FT job for more pay/mobility...
As for 'decent society' well... then don't be so focused on work & material stuff... You have to choose. Sometimes, I regret the long hours I put in but it was a choice I made. I could have stayed in a smaller place, eaten at home all the time (no restaurants), not travelled, etc
I even quit [& changed jobs] when I figured I was not enjoying the 'money' at one worksite. Choices...
I have worked as a dishwasher all the way up... with my own 'corner office' [lakini no jet ;-) & yacht] so don't tell me about hard work... Been there done that...
