mnjoro,
I must say that I did not consider the calibre of driver and the service history of the car when discussing fuel consumption. I included the RAV 4, not the XTrail in the fuel discussion as the furthest that I have driven one to is Nakuru. The hilliest terrain that I have driven the 3 models to is Mumela, the hills that are after Kasikeu. Some sections of the road incline at more than 30 degrees and the road has hairpin bends. The Subaru handled that superbly while the RAV 4 also did well. But the X Trail experienced significant struggles. I find the X Trail to be a good family car that is more spacious and comfortable when compared to the Forester. However, the main reason why I settled for the Forester is that in my line of work, I need to possess a speed demon that is relatively safe. An accessorised steel blue X Trail would be my choice if speed and the rocks that pave the road to my rural home were not an issue.
Gathige;
When considering genuine parts, my experience is that SOME parts eg those of Carinas may be as expensive as those of 1800 cc Mercedenz. Subaru Forester genuine parts are pricey but I am just replacing my spark plugs after 20,000 km. I didnt stay with the XTrail and RAV long enough to form an opinion on the cost of their spare parts but a visit to Toyota Kenya should do the trick. Very important;there is no secondhand demand for the side mirrors, lights, rims etc of the XTrail, RAV4 or Subaru Forester so you wont have to worry about where you park your car.
