I attended the KQ Investor Briefing and when TN was asked about the capital raising, he responded that they were NOT ready at that point to talk about it as they were still looking at various options.

Nonetheless the story in the BD has unfortunately killed off any momentum there may be in the share price. I would therefore shy off this counter until the capital raising is clarified.

A rights is a massacre on this share and it will not raise what is required unless its priced at 20's

I fear you may be right. However, I do not see why KQ needs to raise the entire amount mentioned at once. Currently, the company has less debt than the amount it is proposing to raise, yet they have 32 planes. Initially they will be acquiring (ONLY) 6 787 Dreamliners. So why not stagger the capital raising and do it through a mix of debt and equity?

Its only the 1.50 dividend which is holding the share as we talk.ngoja utaona.

just a thought... dividend is meant for current shareholders..462million shares to be precise..
and book closure is October 14th 2011.. meaning B.O.D did NOT factor probability of rights issue between now and October 14th..otherwise..why set dividend book closure date so far off?

Wasn't the 2009/2010 financial year supposed to be worse for KQ in terms of gains on fuel derivatives?
Then how come their results show that they made fair value gains on fuel derivatives of 6 Billion in that year as opposed to 2010/2011's 30 million?

Sad

Take-home message:
highly profitable; very, very risky; 3months-1year leaning curve; approx. KSh 1m initial investment; coming soon to Kenya; not for everyone!
