Wow! If 1mn people port from Safaricom to Airtel... how much does Safaricom make? Free pesa if you ask me!

Those who will port will probably be those with multiple sims and therefore were not contributing anything to Safaricom.

Safaricom will make a killing from those who will not know what the 3 beeps mean.
This porting business might be a great profit [not just revenues] maker for Safaricom!

Guys, I think you misunderstand - the Kshs 200 goes to an independent company that is charged with porting the lines...initially it was suggested that all operators be stakeholders in that company.

The real question is, will there be enough porting to make a business case for the new company?

I was working with 2M porting away, which is a lot of free money to your competition for those paying for users to move!

If safcom didnt issue a profit warning and the year has ended today, they're in the money...?! My expection is no profit dip?! Mpesa users & data going parabolic yet again. If this turns out right, competition will be utterly shocked. This elephant has a way with doing the impossible number feats just like in 2009.

But 2011 going fwd will be quite shaky.

Safcom may have the upper hand and end up upsetting the apple-cart for airtel.

The have doled out some enticing goodies to airtel subscribers that are hard to ignore. Lets wait and see who weathers this one.

@vvs. True. A dealer(can't remember the name, near Coop bank) advised me to try Nyeri!
