Don't quit your job if you don't have an exit plan. I have suffered for 3 years coz of quitting an unsatisfactory job without an elaborate plan.
It is NOT the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the dog.

It will be three years since i quit mine,i had a baby, hustled on the side doing cakes and events and now i want to re-enter the work force. The job i had then was too stressful and i had to quit or i would have lost my mind.

My advice would be to have a plan B and take all the advice you have been given here.

One of the best moment in employement life is handing in a resignation letter especially when moving from one job to another. If you want to go into buisness below is a checklist you ought to consider.
1.Have enough money to leave on at least
for one year before your buisness is
steady and its able to pay you.
2. Have you source of capital ready not
just an idea its almost impossible to
get funding for start ups.
3.You need to have a passion for the
the buisness you will venture to
It will make the hard times much easier.

It's no longer challenging. The money is very good but I'm wasting away. What would you do?

Ask yourself:
1. What is it you'd rather be doing
2. How do you get there
Before you have a map to get there, stay put.

I am contributing to this topic because @2012 said the pay is good, so we are in the same shoes.

Take my case for example, I do not enjoy my job
even though the pay is very good and I was centering all my investment on stocks.

By staying a little bit longer on the stupid job I learnt about real estate as a good alternative, I need time and money to build up my real estate portfolio to a reasonable extent before I quit.
i need ONLY the money from the job to plan my exit, I do not care about promotion or office politics as my consolation is that my years in paid employment is numbered.

It is like happily serving a prison term !!!

Thank you young. I always value your contribution and I can tell you know where I'm coming from. Thank you all, I can see you all know what I feel.
I have savings to last me through 6-8months. I work in a service oriented industry and I know I'm very good at it. Although I'm paid well, I make my employer 10 times my salary. I arrange my meetings with clients go in and make the money, my employer never attends unless there's a problem and I can't remember the last time there was one.
I want to open a business in the same line targeting SMEs unlike my employer who's target is top end corporates. Basically I help grow businesses and brands.
Although there's immense fear my spouse and I agree it is the right time to step out now when I have energy and still young (30s) than trying out after I retire. My difficulty is that for me to establish I need to be there 100% as it's a service and maybe teach an employee the few secrets that will give us the edge. That said, my biggest fear is losing my family medical cover but I think I can get a cheaper one. Thank you all.

BBI will solve it

Always make sure that everything is in place before quitting your job to ensure a smooth transition. Otherwise you could end up in a lot of trouble. A former colleague had to go begging to have his job back since things went haywire after quitting. He managed to get his job back but was put back on starting salary (and on probation) despite having lots of experience and promotions/annual increments.

In my case, I quit my previous job 5 yrs ago but only after first securing my current job (which was doubling my previous salary). The reason for quitting was that I felt I had reached a dead end. One of the requirements for resignation in my previous job was to give a 1 month notice. So what I did was that I took my 30 days annual leave and the handed in my resignation letter and then promptly reported to my current one. I thus ended up earning 2 salaries from 2 different organizations that month.

Do not be afraid of losing your medical cover.I went through the same dilema moving from a company that had an Outpatient cover of 1 million to one with an outpatient cover of 28,000 two years down the line i realized i can actually survive very well with that cover all you need to do is pray that you do not get sick and need to visit the doctor frequently. There several options for affordable medical cover and don't ignore NHIF it will come in handy. All the best in your venture.
