Cracks on this envisaged mega projects are starting to appear on the planning side.Check out this opinion piece.

Quote:
During Easter, I drove back there to size up recent developments.

I was very disappointed with what I saw. The malaise that afflicts all our urban centres has struck the neighbouring Malili market centre.

Temporary shacks made of corrugated iron sheets and all manner of wood, the kind that I cautioned against in my January article are coming up all around.

They look very recent. And they are so many they seem to obstruct even the decent formal structures coming up. They’ve eclipsed the market centre.

..how come Konza city adverts have stopped? Ama we scared them with our Wazua discussions?

What is the purpose of advertising for any company/institution? Are they supposed to go for ever? Do they have a cost implication? I think it would be "interesting" (for lack of a better word) to expect adverts to continue endlessly while the institution is paying for them. They had to stop at some point even if you have an open check because they have already accomplished what they were made for - to inform. I think the head of marketing and PR (may be) should be fired if he allowed such costs to run uncontrollably.

How Silicon,Si, an element used in manufacture of transistors, inspired Silicon Valley:
Over 90% of the Earth's crust is composed of silicate minerals, making silicon the second most abundant element in the earth's crust (about 28% by mass) after oxygen.
in a Silicon memory chip, the small current turns the transistor on or off. Since the transistor can be in two distinct states, a computer can use it to store two different numbers, zero and one. With lots of transistors, a computer can store lots of billions of zeros and ones and use them to represent ordinary numbers and letters.

In a modern computer chip, the size of a fingernail, you'll probably find between 500 million and two billion separate Silicon transistors.

Quote:
Normally, a Silicon junction transistor is "off" when there is no base current and switches to "on" when the base current flows. That means it takes an electric current to switch the transistor on or off. But transistors like this can be hooked up with logic gates so their output connections feed back into their inputs. The transistor then stays on even when the base current is removed. Each time a new base current flows, the transistor "flips" on or off. It remains in one of those stable states (either on or off) until another current comes along and flips it the other way. This kind of arrangement is known as a flip-flop and it turns a Silicon transistor into a simple memory device that stores a zero (when it's off) or a one (when it's on). Flip-flops are the basic technology behind computer memory chips.

The 1960s

HP is recognized as the symbolic founder of Silicon Valley, although it did not actively investigate semiconductor devices until a few years after the "Traitorous Eight" had abandoned William Shockley to create Fairchild Semiconductor in 1957. Hewlett-Packard's HP Associates division, established around 1960, developed semiconductor devices primarily for internal use. Instruments and calculators were some of the products using these devices.

William Shockley:

Quote:
Shockley set up his own transistor-making company and helped to inspire the modern-day phenomenon that is "Silicon Valley" (the prosperous area around Palo Alto, California where electronics corporations have congregated). Two of his employees, Robert Noyce and Gordon Moore, went on to found Intel, the world's biggest micro-chip manufacturer.

HP and Intel broke out from William Shockley to become the Giants they are currently.

I beleive the government cannot provide all, its just chips in the necessary vital infrustructure to assist the mwananchi start his/her ventures.
We are on the right track, major excavations ongoing, we should be optimistic that silicon city is happening already.....invest there guys

Ndemo should first work on making sure that Sameer park along Mombasa road is full and occupied to the capacity, otherwise Konza is just day dream. One year after the completion of the building, not even an 1/16th is occupied,am not a shareholder there or got interests in the firm but, that ought to be a barometer that Konza will ever materialize.
This is just like another commission of bla bla that the government forms and they never see light of the day.

Clearly they invested in a building NOT on fundamental concepts

I think that going on a realty business is a high risk and high reward type of gamble. And with the lot of options and possible things to penetrate to, that just makes for an even better option to go with things.

I mean, it would be nice to be able to penetrate the market even with the number of available options to work just like that. Don't you think?
