They teach that whatever it is you are called to do,do it as unto God. Do your work perfectly not to please your boss but to please God.

I will praise thee,O Lord my God,with all my heart: And I will glorify thy name forever more. Psalms 86:12

My only issue with them.... they smoke and booze like hell. I was in the old strath college in Lavi and some of the lecturers we crazy chain smokers even in the collars.

Something else,for all round growth i dont know if kids (4 - 12yrs) should be separated ati boys kando and girls kando. In Strath there are no females not even teachers right from Nursery to Highschool.

Ever seen male nursery school teachers,yenyewe they must be gifted to baby sit and change dipers.

@All,

Now that is educative. I had not known all this. My only question; how come there are so many 'sects' within the Catholic faith?

@willing,

these are not 'sects'. they are simply groups with different missions/objectives geared towards serving the same christ and none contradicts the other in word or deed....people are different,and hence serve the lord thru different deeds and works of charity.....u join the one u feel u can contribute the most...all under the wing of the same faith.

The different congregations not 'sects' evangelize different groups of people and have different charisms hence the differences. e.g. Loreto sisters evangelize the youth or young if you like,Congregation of the Mission evangelize the poor and also specialize in teaching,Carmelites spend contemplative life in prayer,Daughters of St Paul evangelize through communication (publications), etc....
Lord, thank you!

@ All

· It’s not even mid month but after being allowed to do what I want,I give up.

· I tried Chivas Regal,Amarula Cream,Chic‘s Chocolate Tequila,

· I tried Guiness and Smirnoff black ice,and now am sure am through with bar affairs.

· Ever heard of a liquor called pantremover? Wacha tu.

· I think I need to know about Opus Dei,join them,and be worth my salt.

· Any one out there with contacts which I can use to enlist with Opus Dei?

· This world is so mixed up,one needs a philosophy to live by.

I love you all.

@all,

This organisation is perhaps best understood from the inside. I am Catholic and for 3 decades,some of which I spent studying at Strathmore,an instituion sponsored and run by the Opus Dei,I have been unable to fully comprehend the prelature,although I find nothing particularly sinister about it. I don't think it is right to classify it as a sect. In fact in Catholic circles,it is not seen as such. The way they run Kiandas,Kibondeni,Strathmores,Loreto e.t.c.says alot about the organisation....At some point,I keep asking myself what Kenya would look like if we decided as a country to get rid of all ministers,Kibaki and Raila,PSs and in their places appointed the likes of Fina De Souza,Mcfie,Dr. Sperling,Njenga,Sotz e.t.c. to run this government

I always thought of Opus Dei as elitist but this notion is being consumed slowly because I recently found out that the are also in Kisumu and Bungoma....maybe elsewhere and the membership is diverse.

But just like many things in the Catholic church which one may not find sufficient explanation for,it is the faith that matters. If you want to join Opus Dei,do and if you don't find reason to it is still okay,only do not criticise unfairly from a point of ignorance.

The many things I have not been able to understand inlcude the financial muscle of some of these. I remember attending an Opus Dei mass at Strathmore School mass in 1995 and damn,they did better than the top companies around. There was free public transport to and from Town and at the venue everyone was given a casque with at least two active channels for English and Swahili translation (this is because the priest could only speak Spanish). Of course I was able to follow mass but....anyway.

The other things include the preservation of dead popes at the St. Peter's Basilica at the Vatican. While on visit there,I asked one of the guys there why they did it,but the explanation was not suffiecient for me...simpley life is Ashes to ashes and dust to dust,why keep bodies in glass coffins for public viewing?

I don't want to digress but hope-actually I know there must be some Opus Dei laymen,coperators or higher on this SK who can tell us more.....

@ pretty .Thanks,coz thats true.

Well,for sure,Opus dei is a good Organisations that runs various institutions including the prestigious IESE business School in spain.

It was started by Jose maria Escriva,a spanish priest who is now a saint.Opus dei members are serious people with different proffesions,some are even married,others are celibate.

According to me the opus dei(work of GOD) is a good organisation,but they face alot of criticism especially due to the secrecy nature.They are very secretive,as its hard to know who is a member or not.
Moreover,they are known to be stinking wealthy and rich,and have the right connections like with the EU and various goverments.

All in all,they are good people.. Who believe is a divine call
