It is true that IBC have extremely high retail prices for common cars, but in terms of high end cars like BMW's or Pajero's they are quite competitively priced. For IBC auctions you can bid in CIF terms and it includes all the charges till mombasa, for your peace of mind it is best to e.mail them and clarify everything. I checked out japan partner and their auction charge comes to about $800 for a single car, which is what most exporters tend to charge. Papera charges $800 as well, but if you use them make sure you negotiate the shipping charges first.

@cknyachae, the total cost for a decent self imported Nissan B15 would be between 450,000-500,000.

The Yen is very strong against the world majors at the moment, hence car prices have gone up by around $500-$1000. The Japanese govt has recently put in place fiscal and monetary policies to try and weaken the yen, so if you can wait for a few months for the policies to work and the yen to drop, you will save some money.
Before you can be be old and wise, you must first be young and stupid.

WIth this you can prepare to spend like Ksh500,000 to cater for CIF, duty and transport from Mombasa and some few drinks along the way. Only that you need to be more watchful

Sorry it took time to check this forum. When importing, you've got two options. To buy from the agents or from the auctions. I would recommend that you consider both options. First and most important, register first with dealer associations like tradecarview or IBC Japan. After registration, they will be sending you daily offers on diffferent cars. Additionally, you can search on thier web the kind of a car you would like with all the specifications that you require. Here, you may or may not find the car that you want. Incase you are interested in any car, do not forget to bargain. In case you do not find the car you want. you can request them to look for it on your behalf. They will gladly do it in car auctions. As said earlier, I also find IBC Japan cars to be very expensive. However, their quality is always assured. They will inform you incase there is any fault (including any minor scratch or even a cigarrette burn on the seat).Tradecarview, being an association of many agents, you will never go wrong on the price but you need to keenly watch the quality. Always ask for maintenance records and exclusive photos including for engine. Good luck
