It was interesting to know that the male and female population is 19M each......

Why is this interesting?????????????????????????? There is a 50-50 chance of getting a baby girl or boy. What did you expect?

Shame on you Shame on you Shame on you Its easier to get a girl than a boy @thedeal. Really.

So how do you explain the census results? 19M each.
The argument that there are more women is used to justify poligamy. It is a myth.

It wasnt about the number of men per se but the number of eligible men

No matter what the numbers; the country SIMPLY CANNOT SUSTAIN these growth rates. We were 8 million at independence (60s) and now we are pushing on 40 million. An additional 10 million mouths every 10 years. Simply unsustainable.

We have to family plan, at family level and at national level.

When you look at the graph of population growth in the KNBS brochure and minister's presentation, you will see that the it is curving upwards! meaning we are growing at an increasing rate. We need to stop having many children given that mortality rates have decreased.

Other random observations are:
-Youthful population (15-24) stands at 7.8M meaning that over the next decade, 20% of the population will seek to enter the workforce. We have more serious issues of unemployment that we will have to deal with
-3.6% of households(13% in Nairobi alone) have a computer meaning that there is huge potential for rollout of internet and other ICT services.
-Huge need for piped water services in Western and Nyanza. Currently only 7%, expected higher. CDF, new county governments should prioritize this issue. It also presents a good business opportunity.
-commercial chicken opportunity underexploited in Coast and Western when compared to Central and Rift Valley. Good business opportunity especially in Coast province considering the tourism trade.

who said that our population is unsustainable? thats a lie, smaller countries have larger populations that are agricultural driven. we just need to get creative and move from Nairobi.

And it is sentiments like this one above that will forever hold us back. Masukuma can you afford to have 10 children? If you can only sustain x number of children for your family, what makes you think that at national level we can sustain endless numbers??????

The other day I saw someone's profile at Ancestry dot com and could not help but wonder where the govt stores our census records? I noted also that we've had census since 1950. Would really like going through such data.

@my2cents look at tertiary sex ratio. It keeps widening as you go up maturity level. Such that now in Kenya, there are 912,000 more women than men! Now tell me about the myth...
