I predict that Safaricom will launch a counterattack on this date. So how did I arrive at this fact...

Almost missed a one liner on the Business Daily article today.
...although the rates will take effect from next month, Spetmeber 1 to be precise...

Can you believe it? The new CCK rates actually come into effect from September 1st. Wololo yaye, Zain is actually sponsoring all calls across networks...

Current margin: -2.00/= per min
After 01 Sep: 0.15/= per min

I think Zain has decided kama ni mbaya ni mbaya.....I can only admire such courage from the directors. They are doing what Yu & Telkom cannot dare do yet.
Formally employed people often live their employers' dream & forget about their own.

Guys, interconnetion fees is not charged per minute. Its charged once to enable the call go thru and and as long as you dont disconnect, you can speak forever. For example if I am Zain and I call safaricom line for 5 minutes, zain will be charged kshs 4.22/= only for the entire duration of that call. Remember i talked for 5 minutes hence Zain charged me 15 bob and paid safcom 4.22/= But since its now cheaper to call safcom from Zain (or yu) most calls will last for many minutes......... get what I mean

Is this Zain offer charged per minute or per second?Sad As in 3 bob per minute billed per second or billed 3 bob per minute pap!!!smile

If per second then Zain are in tough times to make a dime if the peculiar calling habits of Kenyans are anything to go by.

My conservative estimate put it that almost 80% of all individual calls doesnt last 1 minute!!!

well put.Applause Applause

I think safaricom has started to play catch-up, which is dangerous for a market leader. It need to be more creative and ensure it competes against it self instead of reacting to competition..

Impunity...the era when calls used to last for few seconds are gone...these days people "talk".... Meanwhile, the billing is per second.
