The utimate goal of investing is to buy low sell high;if we re-write this core equation in psychology terms it becomes buy fear sell greed.

There are usually mud tracks on the side of the road, so i could stick to these where possible?

or is that not allowed?

The good thing with Nairobi, you can ride anywhere (including through a fence if you find a way....) there is little restriction.

What do you mean by saying "safe"?
Do u mean being knocked down by a car or your balls being knocked out by constant pressure on them by the saddle?

@m.r.davies..I think cycling is a good idea, but not in Kenya, maybe think of a motorcycle..if u aim to avoid the traffic jams
@impunity raises a valid point here(i stand corrected), but studies have shown that boda boda men, hawawesmek kwa bedroom matters. The constant pressure from cycling on that ka-vein hapo in between (which controls alot of stuff when piloting) will have mama m.r.davites looking for alternatived'oh!

m.r.davies does not understand half of what you are saying. he is a white male recently come to kenya.

Which studies?? .....
Where is the link or who did the study?? ..........
Don't try to lie........
and back it with "studies have shown" ............
Next time please say .............
In my uneducated and usually idiotic opinion ...........
Instead of studies .............

Mr Davies .........
On this forum you have the opinion ..............
of fat meat eating & beer chugging middle class nairobians...........
Thousand of kenyans ride bicycles ........
They are usually from the lower class ........
Watchmen and other casual labourers .......
And as such their opinion will not be raised by my peers on this forum ..........
To answer your question ..............
Yes you can ride it a bike ..........
yes thousands do it every day ......
No we rarely have bike parking spaces .....
yes it can be stolen when parked ........
Chances of being mugged low...
Mugging is not the norm and happen only in risky areas ........
Nairobi city council might have some obscure bylaw about cycling in the central business district ...............
It is wise to wear a helmet .....
No a legal requirement though ............
And finally some advice from the Kenyan police .......
http://www.kenyapolice.go.ke/roadusers.asp

Happy riding.....................

I am at Upper Hill a lot of times and cycling there is not the best thing, the lanes are too narrow and half of the time, the mud tracks are used by City Hoppas, Double M's and KBS's (Big PSV's) when the meet each other on the narrow lanes and have to squeeze on the side.

On the other hand, you didn't make it clear whether you'll be riding from Karen to Upper Hill....like someone suggested, it might probably be a better idea to invest in a motor bike if you're looking at avoiding traffic but if it's that and keeping fit, I'd suggest you buy a bike and go to a gym, both for convenience and safety.

POTHOLE/ CRATER ADVISORY:
We have huge potholes plse dont carry passengers, there are unreported cases where the bike hits a huge pothole hard and the passenger is thrown several metres high.
By the time gravity attracts him down the bike has already moved a few hundred meters.

HINT: watch out for sudden lightness of bike/ screams from behind you and a lot of sudden dust behind you after u hit a crater.
Cycle even harder should you observe this

lol
i mean being beaten up, bike stolen

i've landed in someones windscreen before, so i'm used to being knocked off!

I did 52 miles yesterday, mostly off road, so my balls are used to it!

Do not worry about anyone beating you up. It will not happen. A white male riding a bicycle in Nairobi; people will think you are crazy and expect people to make fun of you but nobody will do you harm. Welcome to Nairofi.

@Intelli,
In Kenya,a pothole is a hole that can accommodate a pot.
Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.
