@the deal - Dont feel sorry for folks who bought Kakuzi at 70 coz no sellers & bids a-plenty at the moment... Trades at 78...

@qw - 444,000+ KQ shares traded with 68% net purchases by foreigners... I hope you are right on the technical side... I am confident on the fundamental side coz of the reasons I gave above...

- Weak KES helps KQ coz 90% sales in foreign currency mostly US$
- Lower oil prices hurts hedge gains BUT benefits from lower operational costs.
- Planes in US$ are worth 'more' in KES
- WC2010 effects will be postive coz 60,000+ folks expected to fly KQ NBO-JoBurg-NBO. This will negate losses from ash cloud.
- New planes expected
- New destinations in 1H 2010-11 (Muscat, Juba already open)

I still have my gripes about the management...

According to bloomberg...KQ and China airlines have joined Air France's sky alliance team...hope they can now code share with China airlines...its booming those sides...the management is main limiting factor...

Code-sharing does not need membership in an alliance. And China Airlines does code-share with KQ thru Dubai to various cities in China...

These Chinese airlines are confusing me but here goes...

KQ has existing codeshare for Dubai-China (also Bangkok-China) flights with China Southern http://www.chinahospital...are-with-kenya-airways/

China Eastern/Ukambani will apply to join SkyTeam... The benefits to KQ will take a while...

Its normal for kakuzi to sky rocket on small volumes...but thats how it will fall hard...good speculative counter though...

Tea prices + volumes are very good at the moment...
Avocados will suffer coz of weaker £ and € but more rains means better crops...

why buy? You base your reasons on technical aspects only.. resistance yad yada yada.. do fundamentals agree? Its a fact it is way cheaper than it was when results were out but that in itself is no basis for 'investing" but rather speculation..
price turned south because of collective agreement that fundamentals did not warrant the kshs58 it was trading at before results..

@ qw25041985....please please..nothing against you..just what fundamental reason is there to buy KQ?...NOW..vs later?..assuming you ignore benefits of "hedging"

@deal..vvs.. why should i buy KQ instead of other counters trading in current price range of Kshs45-55..

@ proverb.TA - Technical analysis never fails me. Its pretty simple here when a stock gets oversold it bounces back. Case in point NBK during the dilution scare. But 4 doubtin thomases like u get the uptrend confirmation kesho. Aiiiiiight ??!!? Or where do you expect the share to go ?!!??? Downwards past ksh 46.00 . Pure logic my friend.

KQ hedged at $75 experts predict oil prices will hit $82/barrel this year...so KQ buys fuels at a discount all year...

Q1 numbers should be out by 31 July... So 33 days left... LOL...

Ash will hurt but offset by gains from World Cup...

2 more Embraers/planes for KQ mainly for regional ops i.e more frequencies to Kampala and Juba BuT oil prices have dipped below $75 dollar/barrel meaning KQ is posting losses on hedges since 01-07-2010 and that makes me a worried man...

In the longer-term, lower oil prices are better... losses on hedges notwithstanding...

On the 2 additional planes, good for KQ... Still 2 more 737-300s to be added in 2010...

The 'old' 767s are a pain but hopefully they can be replaced soon coz no 787s till 2013..!

B733s are quite old you know....they were thinking of getting 2 B734s to be fixed to the MBA routes but are not getting any that are in good shape as these airplanes have to be second hand.

They still manufacture 737s, don't they? They may buy or lease 'newer' 737s. I think they have identified a lessor...
