A good initiative, finally something the long whining Kenyan middle class can finally latch onto to make a difference!

Since early last year a group of guys including myself have been paying school fees at Starehe Boys for 2 bright boys who come from severely disadvantaged backgrounds. Last year (2009) we saw them through Form 1 and have undertaken to pay for them till they clear 4th form. In between we will also do career counselling, taking a wide spectrum of professionals from different spheres to talk to the 2 boys. We visit them every beginning of term, spend some time with them, share their popular snacks at their school canteen with them, as they tell us how they spent their holidays, review their report forms and give them a very small amt. of pocket money allowance (500/=) per term (deliberately small so as not to alienate them from their peers).

With time however, we realized it would be better and more effective to go the endowment route. So we are raising 600k which when placed in a bank deposit at 10% p.a. earns enough interest income to cater for the fees of one boy for a whole year. So once we raise the 600k, the annual interest will educate a boy to perpetuity, yaani forever - even long after we are past tense. With 1.2m we will educate 2 boys forever. Now what better legacy than that in life? In addition I am personally aiming to raise 1 endowment of 600k on my own, and everytime I think of this I really get excited and...challenged.

Because they are 2 we have to raise 1.2m and we have challeneged ourselves to raise that by end of 2011. Its immense personal satisfaction to us knowing we are changing and impacting Kenyan lives and families permamently.

So for Ruiru rehab I feel you guys and the endowment way is the way to go for a long term view. I will endeavour attend your events plse keep us posted.

There is more joy in giving than in receiving...

Tuvok , Trump and all , to join the google group, please send an email to me on :mpolekabisa@gmail.com so I can invite you into the group.

@Trump , if you live in rRuiru you can make a visit to the rehab at your own time and share with the children because they need encouragement and mentoring to make it in life.

@ All , our boy has already joined Ruiru High school courtesy of the open hearted SK charity members.

God bless you all.

@All
Thanks for your continued support on the charity club,we and the Ruiru home greatly appreciate it! As @Vision has stated above,Our adopted boy is now in form 1 and we sure hope we'll see him through school, all the way to where God will enable us to and of course if the group grows or we get more funding,we'll take up another child who needs our support. Other than food, clothes and shelter, Education is the next best thing you can offer a person in need.

To join the SK/Wazua google group so as to be updated on the ongoing projects, kindly email Vision2030 on mpolekabisa@gmail.com and he'll invite you to the group.

And to join the mentorship project that seeks to assist these former street kids with some wise life skills and lessons, kindly email me on reggyzoe@yahoo.com and i'll update you on the ongoings as well.

God bless you all Abundantly & thanks for your continued support!

Dear Wazuans /Sk members.

I hope you are well.

This is just to update you on this on- going project of sponsoring a former street child through High school.

Our boy is doing well in school.

Now first term is almost over. We shall get the end of term results after the exams.

We are now preparing for 2nd Term fees.

The membership of this open charity group is increasing. There is room for everyone in this forum. It’s a challenging cause and the more we are the lighter the burden.

If you wish to participate in this 4-year life-changing project please get in touch with Leona or me.

More so, you can contact Leona for the mentoring program for the former street kids who are now housed at the Rehab center.
