martins story is a sad one we buried him on sato.the thugs didn't have anything to do with the car stalling.he's mots just stalled something that can happen to all of us,the messed up part is the thugs were lying in wait.it did not take more than 5 minutes for his friends to come to the spot and by that time marto had already been attacked and the thugs fled.from the look of things these guys are permanently based there, and the police know about this it's a pity nobody is doing anything about it.

very sad. such wanton loss of life. Could they be the street men at nearby Uhuru Park? Say what, even thugs are now into impunity, I mean we know where they are, the cops know and the thugs know we know where they are and that cops also know but still go on with their nefarious activities undeterred!! nktest!

Am thinking since his mots was new, maybe his car alarm was of the cut out type and if u enter a vehicle with loud music u will not hear the ka noise that prompts u to deactivate the cut out, more so if the car windows are closed (which would be the case at that time of the night). A new Merc is a fast car doing 0-100km in <7 secs and at that time of the night with the highway almost clear off cars he could have made it there in those few mins before fuel his cut off from the engine. Just conjecture. Has happened to some pips playing loud music though. May he RIP.

Man, this is very sad and may he RIP. Sometime last year we lost a member of our church(An usher actually @ All saint cathedral) because he was attacked by petty thugs while leaving the church around 8pm on kenyatta avenue(section between All saints cathedral and uhuru highway/kenyatta avenue roundabout). Those thugs must have been hinding @ uhuru park and the police know this. Why doesn't the police patrol these places for Christs sake. I don't know what these thugs use to mug people but you end up in a hospital bed. How many more lives must be lost before they act??? The muggings around Nairobi seem to have become fatal and you better not fall a victim.
It's amazing what you can achieve when you get rid of fear.

This issue is being exaggerated. Just received an e-mail containing this story. Well, it is true; these stories only make news when the middle and upper class are affected. I am sorry for that dude, no one deserves to die that way. My condolences to the family and friends

Every day, we receive a min.of 5 corpses from the slums who have been murdered, but they hardly make news. So many Kenyans, especially in the slums, get killed everyday, why is this making news? It is just not in Uhuru Highway, it is everywhere in Nai.

They kill the rich when they want attention. He was in a Merc, they did not need any another reason. They are just young, hopeless dudes looking for a meal. They do not do it on purpose. Some are even kind (or callous, depending on how you look at it) enough to bring the victim to us or they call us to take the victim to hospital or they just tell us to come pick the corpse.

Believe it or not, by looking at extent of injuries on a corpse/extent of viciousness, you can tell whether murder was intentional or the attack was just meant to impair the victim. For most cases, it is just meant to impair. If I get a chance, I will try and explain more. However, I am not disputing that there are those who do kill just for the sake of it.

And there is nothing like ‘senseless death’. Death is not supposed to make sense; it is just supposed to happen.

I am not a psychiatrist or a criminologist, nor am I defending them. I assist a certain pathologist at the local mortuaries, my work has taught me a thing or two about Nai crime life and how these guys think.

@xtina,i think you missed the whole point,we are not making noise cause marto was well off,we are talking because we were directly affected by his loss,we want to make as much noise as possible to get the attention of the authorities,it saddens me that you have seen the loss of many lives and it is true nobody deserves to die,but look at it this way,if a village is tired of a changaa den then they go there and raid it,and drive the brewers away.

i think the cops have been sleeping on their job, judging from this thread it's about time we spoke about it.not coward and fold and be glad that it is not us.

that is why i would like to invete you xtina and the whole wazua family to join martos freinds on sunday 31st jan in a peaceful march from uhuru park to the spot where he was attacked.more info on a facebook group called

@xtina; The insecurity at Uhuru highway is not being highlited because it is affecting "the rich" in our society. NO! It is because this road is one the three major arteries that feed people into the city....the other two being Thika road and Waiyaki Way.

This insecurity is affecting close to one third of the people who travel to the CBD each day.

And the most affected are pedestrians - notice that motorists are mostly attacked when they are immobile [or forcibly] immobilised

Some two months ago, a man aged 80 was killed just after the flyover connecting south b and south c heading towards the airport. His car had a puncture and he was waiting for help. It was going to 7 pm. There are many other incidents like this along this road. They normally say after thugs get into the culture of killing, they do not stop. The police should do something to get rid of this killers.

@xtina...thats a large dose of reality check to keep us in perspective, so we focus us not only on this sad event but at the larger picture of insecurity at the macro level. BTW, min. 5 pips B.I.D. daily is mind numbing for any hosi, considering others never reach there...

@kazikwisha am glad something is being done, and not finger pointing all over as we kenyans (esp middle-class) are wont to do. This is the pro-activness we need rather than lamenting month in month out the way that thread of road accidents has been each time an accident occurs.
Such efforts have now won u a participant in me hii sunday.

May Martin's soul R.I.P.

I live near this area and there are pedestrians who get mugged on this section on a daily basis.

@ Kazikwisha the peaceful march will be a short term solution as at the end of the day it will all be forgotten and everybody will move on to their normal lives.

I would like to suggest [if possible] change your cause to lighting up Kaburini [cemetery and adjacent wooded golf course area] as the thugs use the darkness as cover.

The cops also keep raiding this area and arresting the thugs but they keep coming back.

@all

If you ever find yourself in the same place/situation do not think but just pick your handbag [for ladies] and take to your heels towards Baricho road and seek help from there.
