In whatever way we view this SABMiller development,EABL should be very worried and indeed worried. First, the East African community will mean opening the bonders not only for (Njunge and Kularaha-all with due respect) to visit other EastAfricans but also the cross trade ie less taxes for companies bringing their goods or selling to other Eastafricans. 2ndly and as Njunge has expounded on the 3b Juba and 1.2b Jinja plants also TZ breweries, the two plants are within reach from Kenya and again their goods easily assessible. it will be a good move by the southa fricans-saabmiller whatever..let them bring all those beers into our bars..already we are spoilt for choice with tusker, summit& malt, bavaria, peek lager,windhoek,siera,spirits... i am thinking of coming up with a katimetable such that on sundays-tusker,tue-summit,wed-bavaria,thur-windhoek,friday-tusker,saturday-milk,public holidays-tuskers only.

@Njunge I am willing to bet you a crate of Tusker/Serengeti/Summit/Kairasi - whatever your poision is, that this move is a feint, meant to scare off EABL from its regional aspirations. Kenya is a saturated market with a dominant first mover, one reason SAB left in the first place. It was an expensive, not to say embarrassing, miscalculation on their part and I would be surprised if they repeated it. Sudan is virtually virgin territory as far as alcohol is concerned. The Juba investment was a classic move that caught EABL with pants down - the reason they trashed the agreement with SAB? I do agree with the comments that, either way, EABL is in trouble. If SAB or Keroche does not take their lunch, someone else will. What happened to the Indians? Maybe they can do a Yu on EABL? "The opposite of a correct statement is a false statement. But the opposite of a profound truth may well be another profound truth." (Niels Bohr)

@njunge - Diageo is no slouch either... In Ghana, they kick SAB's but! SAB is strongest in the markets near S.Africa (Zimbabwe, Zambia, etc) coz of the many refugees/visitors S.Africa hosted from these countries. Greedy when others are fearful. The impact of this thread did not hit me until our highly qualified branch accountant was headhunted by EAB's Ruiru office. She is apparently understudying an accountant who is leaving to join an "upcoming" brewer. New jobs for experts in brewing and marketing sectors. Foreign direct investment, new ways of playing the brewing game and such are the direct benefits of a SAB re-entry. Then there is the ring side seat to watch a good fight with new and catchy commercials on our tired media. It will mean we shall have alternative entertainment to our silly politicians and their Mau, stolen free primary school funds, ODM PNU parleys, the non starter new constitution, oh the list is endless. My penny thoughts.

Humour a non drinker, but isn't beer just beer? What exactly differenciates drinkable beer from all the rest? What are we looking at? Taste? Flavour? Colour? The brewer? Patriotism? Supposing all kinds of beer were placed in glasses that all looked exactly the same? How would you tell "your" beer as opposed to the rest? Humour a non drinker this Christmas.

@aemathenge - Same as soda... si, they are all the same or are they? Get serious... just like sodas... there are different colours (guinness is a dark ale, there is pale ale, different alcohol levels, taste, etc. Greedy when others are fearful. Very well. Let me paraphase the question. Supposing you were posted to say Windhoek for 32 months and there were no EAB products, would you cease being a drinking man for 32 months? If I was posted to a place without Coca Cola, I know I would take pepsi anyday.

I'm definately off topic but who owns the Sierra brand? Is it the mastermind cigarettes guy? I friend of mine has just offered me a whole load of these beers but they taste like a pilsners. “We are the middle children of history man, no purpose or place.
