Just wondering whether there are not giving an injection to a dead horse. Am not sure Uchumi branches are strategically located (geographically) for current crop of consumers...And for those that are ...there is cheaper/fuller competition right next door. Consumers have spilled out of central areas into peri-urban areas (areas surrounding towns)---there is minimal presence of uchumi there (if any). Neither is Uchumi likely to survive the current margin pressures brought by wholesalers in retail business, online shopping, sprouting of many estate mini-supermarkets. Further its likely to be given shorter credit period by its supplier and yet suffer from longer sale periods. Maybe am just seeing a glass half empty....

http://www.nation.co.ke/business/State-plans-Uchumi-retailers-recovery/996-4023352-1097ir7/index.html “We are not planning to stay for so long as shareholders of Uchumi, so once it stabilises then we will move on to something else and let it grow on its own. There are only two emotions in the stock market, fear and hope. The problem is, you hope when you should fear and fear when you should hope

Maybe...but that assumes uchumi's problems are due to government shareholding...are they?

But same gova has appointed other CEO in some parastatlals that have done well.

Maybe, just maybe things will be better with another management in control. Uchumi needs to rethink its strategy. It is so sad that a company with such a long history and goodwill underperforms mama mbogas in the industry. If I became CEO of Uchumi today, i would make it the preferred retail gods supplier to goverment institutions like the army, prisons, secondary schools, universities, counties, airlines etc. Invest more in the supply chain and delivery of end product to the customer. There is no reason to compete in the the same space with kina Nakumatt and Tuskys if you have a competitive advantage in dealing with GOK institutions. Life is short. Live passionately.

Good thought, but unfortinately, most of this gova institutions dont pay and if they do, its when its too late with lots of lost money Work hard at your job and you can make a living. Work hard on yourself and you can make a fortune.
