is dying like sleep? I mean - why would it be different? When you are asleep - do you know you are asleep? I think once in a while I have had some dreams that I laugh and tell myself THIS CANNOT BE TRUE... I MUST BE DREAMING but I digress... do you think dead people know that they are 'dead'?
All Mushrooms are edible! Some Mushroom are only edible ONCE!

Yes they do hear... they try to talk to the living, but they can't... like in your dream you try to shout but no sound comes... It's your soul actually "hearing" and trying to "talk". They physical mouth is just starting to rot and can't do anything...

In short, they are conscious of what is going on
