@Tebes and @Waiter....I see I have been gone for ages.

update (as of 19th August)
- Nbi-limuru - getting worse on the dual carriageway buy passable
- onwards to Nakuru, Salgaa OK - small diversion near Rongai
(BTW near Salgaa , near bridge happened across a grisly accident scene - some body parts strewn on the road - around 1100am on 19th August...speed kills, empty tanker trailer too)
- mau summit eldoret - not too bad - same lumpy sections
- eldoret - Turbo - H Young have made good progress
- Turbo onwards to webuye - a few diversion - H Young still at work - but MUCH better than before
- webuye - bungoma - pretty good

I'd say better the Malaba route though it seems crossing formalities seem to take longer than Busia.
