Those hedges are nasty golden handcuffs. I wonder what happens if the client breaches the contract. $15/barrel oil... The commodities lehman moment arrives as well as Sovereign debt volcano!

This M.D. can be optimistic but optimism without funding is an elusive dream "Don't let the fear of losing be greater than the excitement of winning."

KQ should change their slogan to read.."the shame of Africa"..In a lay man's perspective, what exactly is a loss?Does it mean all income went to expenses and that they still owe creditors?

A loss was on the cards but surely not this huge! For those holding KQ this must be so brutally painful.

This is the curse of most companies where government has majority shares. The employees become the owner and the courts more often than not back employees who areare paid salaries out of this world. Their contracts are inflated and the other end game is that their products or services become too expensive, because of competition. But what else do I expect when greed overcomes reason? Democracy does not belong to the dead

And what is KLM's role in all of this? At ~27% they have to have lost more than they can gain from taking over the route should KQ go belly-up..No?

@Obiero must be agonizing, been there before and I know it is tough to stomach. Hang tight! @Sam_Kibs averaging down is even more bold than digging in. It is certainly your decision but my take is the price will still go lower. I'd say hold on to your money and wait for the bargains that are in the horizon. Better to cut your losses, sell KQ, take advantage of the coming discounts to buy blue chips. Life is short. Live passionately.

Government will not let that happen, so the money is safe albeit reducing.. I will not buy more in the next one week awaiting price discovery by the NSE.. KQ does not know how to manage the media. Thats why Ngunze is not even on twitter unlike Oigara, Collymore, Mworia.. KQ should not be a loss making firm and I was shocked when the CEO blamed his competitors for his bad luck. Never shift the blame, own up and step up! COOP 70,000 ABP 15.20; KQ 414,100 ABP 7.92; MTN 23,800 ABP 6.45

I think there is some truth in it. ever visited Nairobi's entertainment joints?, me I do, and it always leave me wondering where do guys get their money cuz they spend it as if they are competing. ....He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion..

For the argument of averaging down i would wait until the real bear is in town to obtain KQ at its lowest. All the same this share requires a 5-10 year horizon to make worthwhile gains. But my question is; Who do you reckon are the two major shareholders that the senate committee mentioned have been buying KQ shares in bulk as the price has been tanking??
