FRM2011 wrote:It would be interesting to see what would happen if Airtel hired these two. Peter arina has been at safcom from the days of Michael joseph and if there is one guy who understands the secret of safcom's phenomenal growth, then its him.
Were they to join Airtel, it would be a perfect case study, to see whether staff thrive inspite of organisational culture or because of it.
Airtel, it seems to me, is like one place where you have to convince the top mgt that something can't work for it to be given a go-ahead.
They must have secured a very sweet package -and that usually comes with non-compete and non-disclosure clauses tacked on, at least for a few months. Makes it unlikely for Arina to head to Airtel; The second thing is the Indians will not cede a single inch of control, everything is densely stuffed and stacked with bureaucratese from the Indian Airtel HQ, complete with the usual Indian nepotism and cronyism, he would be suffocated, ineffective and all he would do is merely collect a huge salary for a couple of months - but yes, if the guy went there and got free reign Safaricom would have a lot to worry about.

Safaricom chief executive Bob Collymore is yet to get communication from the company’s board of directors regarding the renewal of his contract, which expires in four months’ time. Bob Collymore's contract ends in August, having been extended for two years in 2013. See full story hereBe ignorant and ask a few questions - Peter Drucker

If Arina & Warui were fired coz of (alleged) corruption why would Airtel hire them? Greedy when others are fearful. Very fearful when others are greedy - to paraphrase Warren Buffett

I honestly believe he is corrupt and/or unethical.. Even the FPE laptop project was cancelled after underhand revelations. The security cameras project is implemented but still the nephew to a sitting president gets jacked and the vehicle cannot be spotted on even one of the cameras since Sunday???
