Goldilocks Reloaded wrote:@Aguytrying its interesting you have said the "seasoned investors" are moving to bonds. Now will the "unseasoned" investors become wealthy (grow their capital) from bonds? #JustWondering. Dont you think there are still some great bargains in stocks to give better gains? In my view a calculated balance based on individual goals and risk appetites is the key. unseasoned will lose their money in stocks while seasoned get the modest 10% assuming a correction or crash. co-incidentaly we are in a correction now. read @ecstasy post again and then read @mukiha n @mkonotupu's again. whose capital would have suffered less losses? like I said at any one time at least 25% in bonds. right now there are very few good undervalued stocks. most 'undervalued' have dark clouds over them. The investor's chief problem - and even his worst enemy - is likely to be himself

Can someone comment on Zimele? has anyone had any experience with their MMF product?
I think MMF would be good place to park your emergency fund then move on to stocks.. or stock up both as you go..
Anyway, Zimele?

The best money market fund in Kenya over the last 3 years based on published numbers by all Fund Managers has been the Amana Shilling Fund.
The issue of whether one should invest in stocks or bonds or money market depends on that person's risk profile, investment goals and investment horizon. There is no "one-size" fits all in portfolio construction.
All of us need some stocks in our portfolio, some fixed income and some money market - the question of proportions depends on risk profile, goals and time horizon.

What about GenCap? A sister of Chase Bank, it has been around for the past one year and seems to have consistently outpaced all the other money market funds, Amana included.

Does anyone here know whether the GenCap yields given in the newspapers are net of tax? Also whether the guys charge a joining/admin fee?

They say that the rates are net of withholding taxes and admin fees. There is no joining fee, and it takes 4 working days to get your money upon withdrawal.

For me it's a risk appetite thing, the more you risk sometimes the worst you fail or the better you gain. I've done both Zimele and GenCap on Money Markets but as much as you can't lose your capital in the funds, the returns are meagre in respect of the investment amounts.
Zimele are more honest, they invest your money almost instantly but provide a lower interest. Gencap take a few days before investing your funds which can even be 3-days after they receive your funds but offer the best market rates.

I went to Gencap on Prudential Assurance Building 6th floor, Wabera Street and I was told they invest any amount from as little as 500 bob to any maximu. Their money market fund is from 3 months and their average interest has been in the region of 11%. Do all money market funds invest for 3 months or there are others who can invest for 1 month?

Not all of them do 3 months, others even do 1 year terms like CIC, however, try Zimele, they do 1 month terms but the rate is a flat one of 9% per annum, a stone throw away from where you were yesterday, they are located at Ecobank Towers, 7th Floor Muindi Mbingu Street, Nairobi. Is the 11 pc before WTH,its likely before which means net return is 9.35 pc?Also can you request for the interest before the 3 months?

You can only request for the interest after 3 months, it is quarterly. The lady told me the interest is actually accrued and calculated daily but paid quarterly.
