mwekez@ji wrote:DAMN!!! Were it not for bad debt recovery of KES.1,172,834,000, the reported net profit of KES.729,752,000 could have been a net loss of KES.443,082,000 (729,752,000-1,172,834,000) >>> The bad debt recovery was included in other operating income. See the details in page 47 of the 2012 annual report >>> http://www.nationalbank.co.ke/u...ds/Annual_Report_nbk.pdf That technically ranks NBK with the four FY12 loss making banks i.e. Ecobank, UBA, ECB, Dubai Bank. #Not_Good

This will certainly continue to be the way even with oil transactions. To add, government has been seeking ways of divesting from NBK. This will happen soon and its likely to be occur before oil money begins flowing ...

Clearly, who is bagging the bigger cake?

mwekez@ji wrote:Top two shareholders 1. NSSF - 48.05% 2. GOK - 22.50%
Save for the two, no one has more than 0.5% shareholding in NBK, meaning NSSF + GOK will determine the success of this rights issue I thought I read somewhere that Kirinyaga Construction Company and Eng. Ephraim Maina together hold more than 4%. They must have reduced their ownership

YesS!! Mates, get your facts right!! FACTS:1. GOK and its bodies (including kra & nssf) are multibanked. 2. NBK is currently receiving no favors by virtue of gok shareholding as pointed above and this is not expected to change with KE-oil deals 3. GOK will shed its shareholding in NBK soon which will be a nail on the coffin of your school of thought
