You guys are comedians. Nigeria GDP will overtake SA in a few years. Nigeria GDP is over 10 times what it was 20 years ago.

If they could achieve this in a period of civil war and conflict imagine what they can achieve with peace and correct government policy!

I do not think the growth in Nigeria's GDP has translated to wealth of the common man. The Gini ratio of Nigeria is still way too high at above 48%.

@Tony Stark...a little research does help....

1. Nigerian poverty rising despite economic growth

Link http://www.reuters.com/a...y-idUSTRE81C0KR20120213

2. Nigerians living in poverty rise to nearly 61%

Link http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-17015873

3. Rebase to boost Nigeria's economy 40 percent: source

Link http://www.reuters.com/a...g-idUSBRE83O11T20120425

"The makeover may give the country financial bragging rights, but will change little for the millions trapped in poverty."

Rebaseing is merely a statistical gimmick!

@the deal all the problems mentioned above can be very simply averted by change in government policy!

If you think a rising population always results in rising poverty then we are clearly not arguing at the same level in economics terms!

This is outdated malthusian way of thinking!

@ deal averages never tell the complete picture and hides a lot of details.
@ Guru i totally agree with you. To illustrate your point the links the deal was so kind to offer show poverty increasing from 54% to 60% from 2004 to 2010.
The population increase from 136 million to 158 million. That is 22 million people.

Absolute poverty increased from 74 million people to 96 million people. Yeah you got it that 22 million people leaving in poverty which mirrors the growth.

Is the country richer? Yes
Are the people richer? Probably not
Are the people the country ..... that I cant answer and that lays this tangent to rest!
