Let me hijack the thread now that @guka has made up his mind.

I have been considering buying an old VW Bettle and giving it a make over. Anyone one with an experience on the same and figures - average buying price and make over costs.

The last thing I want is to end up with a "costly" good looking headache - the ones you give the mechanic one key so that you can be telling him where you've left the car everytime it breaks down.

Important Points: I want to use it as a secondary car, I am not a DIY kind of fellow when it comes to cars, I don't have the time and passion to spend long hours at the garage during a slow make over process.
Never count on making a good sale. Have the purchase price be so attractive that even a mediocre sale gives good returns.
