Sugar is not a basic need. Higher prices mean fewer buyers, not good for a factory that makes a margin on processing.

high prices also make good business sense importing sugar.

I don't think MSC benefited from the high sugar prices towards the end of 2011 and beginning 2012 but it was the wholesalers and retailers who hiked the, Nakumatt Nanyuki was still selling a 2kg pack @ 250/= but restricting buyers to one pack plus purchase of other items at the supermarket. The same was going for about 400/= with other retailers.
If you don't want to go to plan B have a good plan A.

@ Statmeister - sugar is a basic need...wanjiku might use one or half tsp for tea instead of 2 tsp but they will still buy sugar!!

leaner times ahead.mumias is now selling a 50kg bag at 3875 down from 6300.

How did he fail to deliver??....In my opinion,EK did a sterling job at MSC.He initiated expansion of processing,branding,packaging,fortifying,Co-generation,ethanol,water,erp amongst many other projects which have enabled the company to grow and stay afloat.The same earned him CEO of the year at one time.Most who know him would completely disagree with you.Would he deliver as a Nairobi Gavana?.My honest opinion is yes!...but that i leave to politiks.Back to business!

Will we continue to use type writters because bringing cheaper computers will put type writers out of business.
Why should the general public pay for the ineffiency of the system.
Im all for the cheaper imports. It will wake up the necessary sectors that can change the efficiency
