mine, i simply used a normal ROTO plastic tank 3,000litres cylindrical , put it underground and cemented the top. has served me for the last 10yrs with no problems of water loss or leakage.
waterproof concreate on the base and sides

To solve the leaking problem,you can use a strong plastic sheeting before laying the machine cut stones.this will solve the problem permanently.If u are interested,I can give you contacts of the manufacturers of the plastic sheeting..Its a bit expensive though....

No need to re-do. let the water kwisha en try using water proof inside. the shape of the tank does not en have never mattered. Am following this closely to learn something new from it!

@ Matata I concur the shape does not matter. Had same problems with my square tank and the fundi reinforced the corners with waterproof na simiti kali en the leakage disappeared completely. For those interested you can check out http://www.regaltanks.co.uk/calculator/ to find out how many liters your tank can hold depending on the size selected. E.g a 10x10x10 feet tank will hold aprox 28,000 liters of the precious commodity
