If your first born is a girl, the first visitor in your homestead should be female or vice verca..
Means bad luck if the first visitor is from the other sex.

This is very true.My aunt was very sick.An owl came and camped on a nearby tree in my grandfathers homestead.It used to make sounds like a crying person.My bro tried to scare it away and it could not leave.It only disapperared the day and time my aunt died.



About the owl, where I come from its believed that to counter the curse of the owl, you walk out and call it names or you hit it with a piece of broken pot.This way the curse reverts to it. Some traditional huts used to have broken pots placed at the pinnacle of the roof to deter owls from patching there.

I think this used to be believed by most kids in kenya: If you point at a rainbow, your cooking at home pot will break.

If a dog crossed someones path in the morning he would have bad luck.
If Teacher Maimuna came to school in a red dress it would be war for the pupils.
But if we crossed our fingers, Pulled out one eyelash and placed it on the head and placed a string with seven knots at the classroom door and the teacher crossed we would neutralize the classroom war.

I think its another common sense one..in the pre elec/ proper lighting era, if you swept at night you could easily sweep put something you needed.
