Speaking of Total, it's at 19 these days.
The beef I have with Jub is its illiquidity.

A split will resolve this, but then the Board has no reason to split as the shareholders are few and fiercely loyal.

They celebrate 75 years existence this year and I bet they might have something (I don't know what) for shareholders.

hisah, much more than Jub, is the answersmile Though I'm not putting my money there. The price controls have them in a tight spot

What are the odds that Jubilee will become like other fund managers who are reclassifying their bond portfolios from held for trading & available for sale to held to maturity so as to avoid write downs from the bonds to catalyse the write-downs on stocks...Guru over to you!

@msimon I agree that jub will change some of their bonds to "held to maturity" but these guys have invested heavily in bonds since may when rates started to shoot up so they are more likely to record some nice gains rather than losses if inflation reverses in november with the expected rains..

unlike other insurers jub is not affected by write downs in its quoted stocks holdings value.. This is because of their huge diversification into private equity (property, power generation, food production, fibre optics etc)

With EPS of 37, they paid a final div of KES 4.5 plus 1:10 bonus. With the expected EPS of circa 40, should we expect a repeat of the 4.5 plus 1:10 bonus

I expect a final dividend of 5.5 (total 6.5) plus 1:10 bonus..

But dont forget the special dividend that will come to celebrate 75years anniversary...

Financial Year 2012 is the 75 anniversary. Is the special div likely to come with the 2011 Financial Reports or with the 2012 Financial Reports (i.e. at the start of the cerebrations or at the end)

75 years started on August 3rd 2011.. so I expect the dividends to come with last years report..

By the time 2012 report comes we will be in 76th year..

Mmmh. Jubilee sister, NMG, splashed total div of KES 8.0 out of an EPS of KES 9.8 during their 50th anniversary. With an EPS of KES 40, Jubilee has the capacity to reward exceptionally during this 75th anniversary ...

@mwekez@ji, I rather hope for a bonus share rather than a special dividend. Dividends don't are not good value considering that they are wiped out as soon as they hit your account. If say they offered a share for every 10 held, on top of the usual 1:10 (total 2:10) then that will be something.

But looking at the Pan Africa numbers, I'm not feeling very confident about the 2011 results.

@GG previous bad years should tell you JUBs results have never matched other insurance companies...

They rely minimally on the NSE for profits..

How are they wiped out? Does your bank erase them?

@VVS, it is a phenomena called Marginal Propensity to Spend, which hits 100% when there is some 'loose' cash in the account.

What are you people talking about? Out of the over 200MPigs, how many die in a given tenor? Whats the aggregate premium they will have paid?

Jubilee made underwriting profit last year and it also enjoyed the good float. Watch them do it again and again and again

How long have they been Mps??. Im sure Jubilee has been receiving saitotis premiums every year since 1970s..

The claim is much less than total accumulated premiums on the policy...

Plus with every unforeseen accidental death the premiums rise..

"Im sure Jubilee has been receiving saitotis premiums every year since 1970s"
OK, who am I to disbelieve you...
1) This payment was coz he was an MP not a personal cover. So explain this:
Why would GoK pay premiums for saitoti even when he was NOT an MPig?
2) Has Jubilee been the (only) Life Assurance provider for MPigs since the 1970s?
3) An opinion is not a fact even if "Im sure"
