Thanks @lochaes. I'll check those out. Plus I've just seen these guys on OLX. I'll go there too.

Niiice. Thats Green Cycle shop. nakuombea you succeed

Found their prices quite exaggerated for used bikes. 50 - 60k for a used bike is a bit of a stretch IMO. Plus the particular one I identified had trouble with the front derailleur and the technician was having trouble taking care of it. The search continues.

I bought a new MTB from bikes and sports one year ago which i use to commute to work every day. It is perfect ni kama ndege and I keep it in top notch condition by servicing every two months. IMO buy a good quality bike which you'll use for long and hand it down to your kids

I went to Wheels of Africa at the weekend. They quoted low prices but had very poor quality stock. The guy manning the shop was also too eager to make a sale and grossly exaggerated the quality of his bikes. I might check back again when they have new stock.

I went to CycleLand in westlands. Ni kama Galleria tu. smile They sell this for KES 135,000. I have to say it rides very very well though.

Impressive! I want to start out easy (riding on weekends and in the evenings) and maybe eventually I will gather the nerve to commute. I wonder how many kilometers you do every day and how you deal with the poor driving habits of Kenyans. For the record, back in the day I could do upwards of 80km on a one speed bike!

I agree about getting a good quality bike and I appreciate that they don't come cheap. I am just not willing to spend too much on a new one yet, which is why I am shopping for used. Fortunately, someone just eloped with my daughter and it won't be long before I find them. The bride price (plus relevant fines) can easily finance an upgrade. smile

I do approx 20 km a day. The first days were very hard but once you get conditioned you really enjoy. For the motorists, I am always paranoid and try to be as visible as possible. I wear reflectors and the bike has lights. Finally, I whisper a prayer before I get on the bike Pray

if you are starting out in riding I would recommend you get a cheaper EX-Sth, could be Ex-Uk or EX- Norway etc without pro specs. I got an Ex-Uk for 12k at Kasarani just before Equity, there is a bike shop. The Bikes might look abit old, but hapa ni frame tunataka na original gears, the rest can be oiled and fixed. I spent 3k to bring it to working condition. Its a MTB btw not a road bike and has served me well ever since, clocking over 500km in its lifetime. There were other higher quality bikes, from 18k to around 25k.
If you can get sm1 to import a used one for you, even better and cheaper.
