probably, re-balancing of ones portfolio necessitates consideration of ;

1 time period--how long you intend to maintain the current portfolio depending on your return objectives

2 taxation--securities that need tax exempt are those for high net worth individuals one can avoid investments that produce high current income particularly over long periods where the need for current income is not immediate

3 liquidity--This is based on future spending needs whether immediate or not. an increase in wealth is accompanied with an increase in lifestyle.

hope this helps

EXCELLENT! Always keep no.2. in mind.

Genghis Khan, a couple of book closures coming up in the near term. You might want to keep an eye on the stocks as you aim to restructure your portfolio. All the best

Been thinking hard and long this weekend. With all the oil s**t and politics as we head to 2012 I think I should liquidate every thing and move to money markets or real estate till things are clearer.
For money markets I'm contemplating CFC Stanbic Money Market Fund or maybe one of those Govt Infrastructure Bonds.
For real estate maybe something in my home county as I see demand for housing picking up in a big way with this devolution thing.
I want my exit strategy to be sell anything showing over 75% cap gains. Currently this is only NIC. If I reduce the threshold to 30% then KK, TPS, NMG, KGN will show up, giving enough cash to make a downpayment for a nice apartment. Just thinking.

Good for you that your portifolio is enough to go into an apartment. I dont see big gains in 2011-2013 unlike the past year. I would say go for it.

My portifolio returned 60% in the first quater...if it was not for the losses i took in KQ it would have been 70%...Stocks is the only thing that has offered me such kind of returns...or the other business ventures i have tried have ended in failure...i recently tried to go into the IT business...the stock currently piled in my room is a painful remind of 'stick to what you knw best'

GG you are wrong even at its worst in 2001-2002 the NSE was giving a return of 18-24% and it is still offering the best returns compared to the money market where the rate is 6.5% average. With inflation at 9% quite doesn't make sense with some stocks like KCB returning 41%. NIC and KCB will still be able to post growth in earnings above 50%. As you said NIC has given you 75% where will get that in real estate. I hope you didn't miss out on the KENGEN PIBO that 12.5% is really good. Please think again.

stock gurus like of njunge n stockmaster etc advice on this....
currently my portfolio (150k) 48%kcb,52%K.
i got cash 11k i want to invest in penny stocks.on monday aka.KK,Sasini, mumias, safcom, unga n paka.
vision 2030
i have daykio mwiki plot balance of 452k i want to clear on or b4 August 2011.By liquidating all stock held by july and also i allocate 50k from my salo as from april.
notes.
1.Daykio plots title not yet out even for those who have completed paying.
2.Suppose i invest 50k monthly to stock other than downpayment for the plot is it worthy the risk.
3.Suppose i pledge with bank to give loan on the shares money obtained i add to the 50k salo n invest in mid level stocks likes of kcb, equity,kq,and liquidate after 6 months is it worthy??.
please advice your brother on the possible scenario...its good to start from somewhere even if small.
thnx.

If i were you, I would take a loan of about 500k and offset the plot balance. Then use the remaining 50k to get into the market.

Assuming you took a loan with a 2year term, your repayments would be like 25k per month. You can put the other 25k into the market monthly.

From past experience it's always safer to enter the market slowly... many times when we jump in with a lump sum we either make a killing or get killed... best to get in slowly especially when not absolutely sure about what ur doing.
