Dear former employee,
We noticed our bandwith was reducing and we installed a weblogger in the last month.
Having tracked your internet usage in the past months we have noticed you wasting office hour and bandwith on your 'retirement plan'.
We wish you luck in your future endevours.
PS: this is your 1 day notice and zero shilling severance i hope the sarcasm was not lost on your.
Yours sincerly
former employer.

I hope despite disliking your jobs you perform your job to the level your paid for. Disgruntled employee are a curse to their employers and their employes customers.
If yot hate your job quit, look for a new job, retire but dont waste my time and my customers time messing up my business!

@2012 could you please answer these two questions:

1. What is your personality? (Give a brief description of your most prominent qualities)

2. What is your risk base? (List here dependents/ debts etc)

@2012, i feel you.
I quit my job in May last year before getting another job. I felt like i had reached the end with this job and so i quit with my head held high. I was stressed and so i spend the first week just resting and bonding with myself.
However, i had savings that could last me 10 months and i moved to a cheaper house. I also did freelance consulting in that period, attended lots of training programmes and finished my post graduate course work.
However, i had minimal financial responsibilities in this period and got lots of support from fiance and family. I could also earn little money to live on. 4 months down the lane i got another job and im much happier. So depending on your responsibilities and financial position decide on whats best.
But i know there comes a time when one has to put their feet under water for change to happen!

2012 before you decide, make sure that its nothing to do with midlife crisis. Then :
1.Have savings which can cover 6 monthly expenses rent, food, fare/fuel loan repayment if any.

2.Agree with your partner before quitting to seek her /his support.

3.Be sure to readjust your living conditions like say moving to a cheaper house as you look for another income generating activity.

4.Make sure that the income generating activity is up and running for about 3 months before quiting.

5.If its looking for another job , first secure the job then quit the current one.If its business refer to point number 4.

@2012 - I WILL quit this year too. But you cant make that decision in a month and boom! off you go. Take time, take @newfarer's advise above particularly point number 4.

For me, if the side-hustle hits at least 2/3 of my current income -consistently, it is more satisfying to be my own boss. Of course my current income ni kidogo, so am hoping to hit this in 6 months.

Don't burn bridges you may need if things go bad - this is a huge mistake - hata kama u r leaving ur employer, be faithful to the last day.

Did you hear of that prominent organization right here in Nairobi which asked staff members to repay the bonus they were paid last December as the former management had cooked the books to show good profits.

My buddies resolve to quit work was reignited when the first deduction was done last month.

@Leylah, beautiful morning for a courageous lady.

Many men quit a job to hustle, but I know of at least 3 ladies who just up and quit, that it, no plan - happiness so intertwined with their psyche.

In all cases it worked out in the end but gosh, I don't know if I could imagine doing that... Jobs are sometimes too too important to men.

@2012, good advice from @young and the crew smile

i had planned to quit my job in 2007 in anticipation of a clean election and an ever growing higher and higher real estate boom..

by october 2007 though 3 months to the election all my clients disappeared.. i had to keep my job to get through to december hoping that immediately after the election purse strings will get loose and the property developers (my clients) will be back..

then immediately kibaki got sworn-in in the dark... the country started burning... infact by the end of january.. instead of quitting we offered to take lower pay at the company i was working at to keep our jobs..

i am just saying business has cycles... the election cycle is one of the most important...

the other cycle you need to be aware of is the annual xmas cycle where all your clients disappear by the 10th of december and you better have reserves to last through to the end of january... if ill prepared these 3 months can break you.. noting xmas spending and school fees.. not forgetting that crazy event on the 14th of feb..

Boss, it is more likely that you are doing something that is not in tandem with your personality. If you keep at it, you will end up seeing all manner of physicians from cardiologists to psychologists et al. Just get someone who can proffesionally analyse you and get you your personality traits. From there, you will KNOW where to go or stay. I wish I had done mine much earlier in life. I would have avoided alot of pain.
