It's ironical the mixed feelings we perceive this incident with, which is a pointer to the circumstances we find ourselves in - a country with a poor judicial system.
I have never been involved in a car jacking or violent robbery incident and I thank God for that every day and pray that I never get in one, so I would understand when someone who has experienced it praises the cop in the front page for swift justice executed.
On the other hand, I know that there are innocent people who have been shot in cold blood though in this case the guys lying on the ground had a gun retrieved from them (according to witnesses) so in all likelihood they're thugs who have and were probably about to commit crimes. I feel nothing for such - live by the gun and you shall die as such.
I also put myself in the cop's shoes, knowing that you'll arrest these guys and they'll be out in a bit, endangering people's lives and yours as well. Frustrated by the system, I prefer to execute while I can...but in broad daylight on a busy highway??If that's not impunity then blistering barnacles! Not that putting them in a boot and going to Ngong forest is any better but this is not right...a cop has to try and get some good evidence to put these guys away, otherwise one should not be in a system they don't believe in.
How many of these have happened without being caught on camera?Remember the 6 taxi drivers shot in cold blood by cops a while back? Where has their case reached now. While I support the fight against crime, summary executions will not help.
This government has failed us in so many ways it will be cursed forever. If I was a cop, I'd probably be doing the same but whatever happened to conscience?Maisha mbaya...
