There are fixed costs and variable costs. Fixed costs include crew pay - constant regardless of distance. Variable costs like food, some amount of fuel depend on capacity.
Thank you GG. You even left out Airport taxes which are a substantial component of the ticket price.
My chief concern is safety. I have been checking details of some of the locally registered aircraft I have flown in and I say I would rather stick with Kenya Airways no matter how higher the cost is. One DC-9 was built in 1965 ( I don't know whether it still "jumps" but I recently saw it parked at JKIA.

written off after an accident in Sudan but someone bought it off an insurer (insurance companies only sell salvages) and repaired it and had it re-registered.
