Are children born intelligent, or is intelligence gathered along the way as they grow older? I think it is a little bit of both.
Set out to correct the world's wrongs and you will most certainly wind up adding to them.

this takes us to the NATURE -NURTURE controversy....i tend to think intelligence is 30 percent Nature and 70 percent Nurture

I think as it has been said above, kid's paces are very different and as a parent, you just have to learn your kid and assist from home the little bits you think the school/teacher didnt cover. However,i believe the school your kid goes to assigns 2 teachers per class?(teacher and assistant) as opposed to the schools where some of us went to that had 1 teacher screaming her frustrations to 100 of us and thus no time for the teacher to focus on each child individualy, and the overly bright and OR academically challenged were left to suffer...

I think you shouldn't be too worried,in as much as the teacher was airing her concerns, she and her assistant know how to handle the different clusters of kids in their class. And btw, shouldn't such info be passed to the parent confidentially as opposed to being ambushed in a parent's meeting? I can only imagine how they felt and with the complicated system in your end of the world.. they must be stressed:(

Alright, my concern was/is the japanese child is the bright one, mine is kawaida average. However the reaction by the school administration towards the Japanese was a bit wanting for my liking. That said, they clearly said they have pupils who can write their names and others who scribble, i will be frank i'd not want to my child to be in that scribbling category, in their eyes they are equal, and they carry on as if everythig is alright. Now my question is, do any of you prescribe to this notion? What happens if this continues, will they forever drag behind the class. What if later my child is in this category, is she doomed because the administration believes this is fine when clearly it's not??
