The invites were actually sent by Stephen Hayes, the Pres. of Corporate Council on Africa, funded by USAID to focus on increasing two-way trade and investment between the United States and sub-Saharan African economies. Obama doesn't and will probably not know who Kirubi is but i believe the US is trying to secure its interests in Africa through these CEOs/business leaders. Most African head of states are already warming up to China......
And one CK thinks not attending this meeting is showing patriotism to Kenya??
As Magigi said, for a fact US will not want to associate with Kenya through the presidency that has a case pending at the ICC.
That said the US government funds so many organizations that put food on the table for so many people here including myself and to some extent CK himself.
Now its possible for the government to say it does not need the US, think about what USAID, CDC, etc do for ordinary Kenyans?
Yes the rich and affluent in Kenya do not need the US but someone is almost dying from HIV/AIDs in a small village somewhere in Kenya, and the difference for that person will be some US $$ that Obama allocated the dying Kenyans.
