apart from Dreamliner, all the other planes under Mawingu money are on schedule with the novel Boeing 777-300ER jetting into JKIA on 25th October. Here is a summary of their plans which I am sold to: www.centreforaviation.co...-continent-by-2017-71784 HF 90,000 ABP 3.83; KQ 414,100 ABP 7.92; MTN 23,800 ABP 6.45

Interesting. KQ is already past 1H for 2013-14 but I haven't seen any moves on the following. On the other hand they do have 5.5 months left in the current financial year. Kuala Lumpur 3x on 767-300 Bangalore 3x on 787 New Delhi on 767-300 [Flight timetable shows 737-700] I want KQ to succeed but IMHO, they are expanding too fast too soon using large amounts of debt. @Obiero am sold on this one already for the long haul, boarding tomorrow. The Airline business has been tough for some time and the narrow body fleet strategy for the short haul could pay off. Thanks for the info. Timely advice is as lovely as golden apples in a silver basket. Proverbs 25:11

@vvs I echo you view, the organization is off rail on its long term strategy blame it on Boeing or whoever you want to but in modern day avaiation, management should build in capacity constraints in their strategy plans. They only have Delhi in the plan, Bangalore and KL are off Sao Paolo and Berlin will probably be off. What is also not highlighted is that as they are missing these milestones their existing routes are getting nibbled away by the competition especially african routes. The narrow body strategy was at the very least 50% forced by competition who just keep making it difficult for KQ to fly wide bodies to certain routes in Africa. At KQ's prime it used to fly a 777 to Lagos via Abidjan/doualla daily, it now does a 737-800 and largely because of range and belly space for the oga traders but in essense it could easily fly a E-190jet there. It also used to fly a 777 to Dubai and back but now flies a 767 which also goes to Bangkok or or at times fly a 737-800 largely for belly space.
Reality is KQ is a very short term technical play, which you keep play around the results and nothing else not even arrival of jets because these jets are debt funded and competition isn't relenting. Days of KQ bringing in a 777 and that translating into revenue and profit jumps are a few years behind us.
I am in but largely for the huge mispricing between 1H14 results and the price. Once that realigns am out soonest. I await the day the BOD and Management can control many more factors in this business before taking a long punt.

Tomorrow, Friday 25th will Kenya Airways’ latest and biggest bird ever take to the air from the Boeing manufacturing plant in Seattle to start the ferry flight home to the airline’s base in Nairobi. The 400 seat aircraft, offering 28 seats in Premier Class and 372 seats in Economy, will after arrival later on Friday be prepared for service at the Embakasi hangar of Kenya Airways, before entering service on 05th November with a planned flight to Guangzhou in China. http://wolfganghthome.wordpress...r-homebound-for-nairobi/

Its great that KQ is getting the 777-300, but it is not a game changer. They have always had the 777-200 (which are in seriously dilapidated state) and in need of replacement. The -300 will not open new routes, but replace the existing -200s, the only advantage being an extra 100 or so seats and extra belly space. In fact, if the -200 crew cant fly the -300, it means that KQ will have to maintain three sets of crew specifically for one plane, and those are overheads.

Bingo! - 1 plane is not a game changer as you point out. Only when the 787s come in consistently will a difference be made. - Does KQ still have the ancient 767s? Those need to go! The 777-200 is a great plane in comparison! - Boeings are designed in a manner that the crew that flies the 777-200 should be able to fly the 777-300 [& they would have been trained on the new plane] - Until the staffing is sorted out, KQ will still face problems. Even the 787's are not coming in huge numbers. Only one is scheduled for delivery soon. LinkOnly one probably to be delivered in Q2 next year. Yet Ethiopian will be operating 8 787's around the same time.

Time for some education the 777-300 is replacing no plane, its an addition will fly the to china. The 787 (dreamliners) will replace the 767s not 777s, over the years. 787s are a smaller plane but fuel efficient. And dont forget that KQ has been receiving embraer planes every other month. Ethiopian flies boeing planes even short distance eg Addis - Nbo "There are only two emotions in the market, hope & fear. Engineer Kamau decrees that henceforth all gaarment officials must fly KQ. The following day WSR jets in onboard a KLM. Is it a case do as I say, not as I do? Or is it that ICC flights are personal and not underwritten by the tax payer?

GG- the B772s KQ has are in great nick! The B773 could well be a game changer....think about it, they have the short range connectivity airplanes, what they lacked was a big boy, with bunks for the crew, this allows them to fly longer distances direct without the dog-legs. yes the crew on the existing B772 can intact fly the B773 with a short course... B788---start trickling in one by one, as they are custom made....

@Horton, I used a 772 from LHR in August and wouldn't exactly say the kite was in great shape. My personal screen was hardly responsive to touch, my seat wobbled wildly during takeoff, the under carriage made a deafening noise as it retracted - not exactly a nice user experience, unless you gauge a/c fitness solely by the soundness of the engines.
