this ebola fiasco brings to the fore the importance of information, the latter has played a big role in the spread of the same.
at this rate providing electric power and internet is seemingly more vital than even piped water.

I agree... I didn't have piped water for 2 years but have but figured a way to survive (even now that piped water is problematic). Electric power and the internet will enable us solve so many of our issues

IMHO, the slow response of the international community WHO and the coincidence of bad conditions all combined with dysfunctional health infrastructure, local beliefs - funeral rites et cetra have complicated the dire situation. I foresee another 2004 Rwanda genocide style regret from Uncle Sam and the useless UN.

Figure this from Dr. Peter Piot: It took 1,000 deaths before a public health emergency was declared by the WHO, and cynically it took two American doctors to become infected......

@Masukuma, is this real?

Liberia has 51 doctors to serve the country's 4.2 million people (an average of 0.1 doctor per 10,000 people) and 136 for Sierra Leone's population of six million (an average of 0.2 per 10,000), according to data compiled by the Afri-Dev.Info health and social development agency.

First case of Ebola in USA.They will now take it seriously!!! The guy had been to west Africa and fell ill when he went back to the States. And to think that Kenya Airways were not taking this thing seriously....

did you look at just how ebola would be required to land in Kenya? i actually said the west was having more of a problem than us.... simply because while west africans are obsessed with the west they literally don't give a damn about us and the persons who would bring it here would be those kenyans who will still come home even by hook or crook.

it's quite possible .... very grim picture. this is a country that is sijui 130 years old (independence).... you see why that metric is useless? it's quite possible that most doctors escape the country as soon as they can and the 52 are in the process of bailing out or have been rejected a couple of times. by the way Liberia is our peer!

Dallas hospital diagnoses first patient with Ebola

Quote:
The man left Liberia Sept. 19 and arrived in the USA the next day but had no symptoms when leaving Africa or arriving here, said Thomas Frieden, the CDC director. The patient became sick Sept. 24, and he sought care two days later. He was sent home but returned to a hospital and was admitted Sept. 28. Frieden did not reveal the man's nationality but said he came to the USA to visit relatives.

the problem with most Kenyans is the delusion that they are at the center of the world.... that people actually know where Kenya is and people actually care. Even Africans themselves actually care about who we are and where we are! don't be shocked if majority of people outside South sudan, Ethiopia, somalia, TZ and UG don't even know where you guys are and they don't care! Liberia is a country of persons who consider going to the US as 'going home'.... you get taxi drivers who have gone to the US! people there are possessed with going to the US! Kenyans... you are not important! very very very few liberians, sierra leoneans and guineans know where you are much less care enough about who you are to travel here and bring 'e-baller'

@Masukuma, point on about Liberians and their obsession with the USA, they consider themselves the 53rd state of the US (The lone star on their flag belongs to the stars and strips). I also agree, just like most Kenyans don't recognize where Sao Tome is many Africans don't know a thing about Kenya. I love the Nigerians' pride in their country "Giant of Africa". Outside this continent, if you are black many people will think you are either Nigerian or South African.
