Good idea, bad planning and implementation......
HA! Wait until the day the JKIA turn off-Rironi construction begins, people will go running to the train! City Council will also soon be increasing parking fee you will beg for more trains Uptake of the service should not be based on threats. Make it ATTRACTIVE (convenience, value for money, enjoyable, appealing....) Go back to the drawing board!! There are no threats here...upgrade of msa rd will start at some point, Nrb city council has always wanted to increase parking fee to decongest the town! 50bob is more than attractive and lets not expect to be at par with rail services in Newyork or London we have to start somewhere!!

Parking fees are collected to raise revenue and should remain as such. NOT to decongest (Read Scare away, Chase away residents). drawing board, drawing board!! Pesa Nane plans to be shilingi when he grows up.

@Pesa nane, Charging of parking fees is a tool that cuts two ways. Raise revenue as well as a de-congestion tool. We've turned our narrow roads into parking slots. That has to change.

@mkeiyd, Parking is a public utility, just like a hospital. Would you charge health care prohibitively just because there is an outbreak of diseases and patients are crowding the health facilities? blackberry wrote: @ Pesa nane what's with all the hatting? @blackberry, No hating! (hatting, hehe) Think tanks have been employed to think, plan forward, strategize, etc. Let them earn their salaries. Pesa Nane plans to be shilingi when he grows up.

@Pesa nane, Those are two are too different to ever be compared. In most of the cities we wish to emulate, parking fees per day is thrice or more, the cost of a decent meal, yet their health care costs are more affordable than in Nairobi. How much is the cost of a decent meal in Nairobi? Three times that is what CCN should charge to de-congest. Parking on the road becomes utility when used by utility vehicles, ambulance, garbage trucks, delivery vans etc. What needs to be invested in is mechanized car park towers

As much as we claim we are being scared away remember companies are moving from CBD for lack of parking space for their customers because all parking slots are occupied by people who park their cars from 8 to 5. This is affecting those renting out office space they are loosing revenue. Increasing parking fee is not the ultimate solution. There is need to invest in construction of Parking lots but i understand there were some plots in town meant for that but are currently privately owned so for now there is no choice increase parking fee and try to bring some sanity within town!

@mkeiyd, you should appreciate my line of argument. Residents should not be punished for owning vehicles, nor for having businesses at the CBD. Residents should be given incentives to see alternatives and planners should plan with growth in mind and keep pace with the same. And I don't buy you theory. A WEEK'S parking at P26, P51 at Geneva AIRPORT is just 93 CHF starting next spring (3 kiosk meals). And why do you want 'fast' world pricing in 'slow' world?? Pesa Nane plans to be shilingi when he grows up.

Those fees apply at the airport,is it possible to go park at the airport then head to the CBD? Below are some of the world cities" CBDs Purchase an NYC Parking Card online Location Hourly Rate the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island $1.00 Manhattan above 110th Street $1.00 Manhattan from 96th to 110th Street $1.50 Manhattan below 96th Street $3.50 commercial vehicle spaces in Manhattan $4.00 (first hour) $5.00 (second hour) $6.00 (third hour) charter bus metered spaces in Manhattan $20.00 (three hour maximum) PARK Smart NYC PARK Smart is a program developed with the community to make parking easier while reducing congestion and improving safety. PARK Smart aims to increase the number of available metered parking spaces by encouraging motorists to park no longer than necessary. The meter rate is higher when demand for parking is greatest and decreases when demand is lower. Learn more about Park Smart Parking in London can be difficult, particularly in Central London. If you plan to drive in London, plan ahead by researching car parks near your destination and, if necessary, pre-paying the London Congestion Charge. London was the world's first major city to introduce a congestion charge to reduce the flow of traffic into and around the city centre.
The charge is £10 if you pay in advance or by midnight on the day of travel, or £12 if you pay by midnight the following charging day. You can pay the following charging day only via the Transport for London website or call centre. If you're registered for Congestion Charging Auto Pay, you'll be charged £9. If you travel on a Friday you have until midnight on the following Monday to pay.
You must pay the charge to avoid receiving a £120 fine. These areas coincide with the highest-price zone for on-street parking and public-sector off-street parking. On-street parking here costs 1000 Won per 10 minutes (US$0.90 or so - meaning $5.40 per hour).
On-street parking pricing in Seoul is via parking attendants who wield digital handhelds. High parking fees world over is a tool for de-congesting. The wheel cannot be re-invented.
