Kenya Railways has now partnered with Double M - Public Service Vehicle operators to provide rail connect services to your destination. The rail connect buses will deliver you to Syokimau railway station from Mlolongo area, Syokimau, Athi River JKIA, and Kitengela. You can then board the train to town.

Another flop....history repeating itself....Double M was partnered and even branded to provide connection from muthurwa stage to wherever....when muthurwa was the only stage for all mathree which ply Jogoo rd. How long did it last? it didnt make economic sense to them either.... its just another remedy to a symptom rather than the disease...

I think it's good to first understand why the Muthurwa arrangement failed. That plan didn't fail coz it was unworkable,Double M were not protected from other competitors. If the ticketing takes in account of the passengers who'll need onward connection, the issue of competitors under charging will not arise and those passengers will be guaranteed of buses whenever they dis-embark from the train.
That will call up for integrated payment system, with passengers using cards or coded tickets.

@maina, you are right, it's just another remedy to a symptom rather than the disease. The disease is the commuter rail system is a noble concept but in syokimau's case has been poorly executed. The previous transport train originated from athiriver, stopped at mlolongo, industrial area and railway station. This schedule has to be the spine of this syokimau route for success. Secondly the station is poorly positioned. Among other things it requires a pedestrian crossing from the other side which has allthe residential clusters. Security is required It also has to be an end to end service with stations built across the route and lastly a schedule has to be maintained and its integrity guaranteed in the same way airlines operate otherwise this is a waste of public funds with minimal value accruing to the public!

These are run with electricity generated from nuclear energy

Not always, only a small percentage of worldwide electric trains use energy generated from Nuclear energy.
For instance Venezuela use diesel powered thermal electric power plants to produce electricity for the national grid, the grid electricity which is used to run the country's electric trains.
The last time I checked,Venezuela had no single nuclear power plant.

The dirty engines you see pulling the Syokimau express are all electric trains, only that they are kind of self contained, producing their own electricity from huge diesel fired internal combustion engines, they dont draw electric power from the the grid.

So for your information Kenya has electric trains.

Cheka tu lakini you must know that Kenya started using electric trains sometime back in early 70s when steam engines were being retired srore.

Ignorant people especially in wazua think that when the Syokimau express billows blackest smoke then its not an electric train, no it is; the engine is however not tuned properly.

Last summer I used Amtrak and could imagine the loco was burning diesel, the exhaust was clearer than the shoot of most of you here.

Sad Sad Uptake of the service should not be based on threats. Make it ATTRACTIVE (convenience, value for money, enjoyable, appealing....) Go back to the drawing board!!
