Quote:Kenya was largely quiet on Sunday following violence in the aftermath of elections, as opposition leader Raila Odinga came under growing international pressure to concede defeat.
The election commission on Friday declared incumbent Uhuru Kenyatta winner of the presidential poll by 1.4 million votes. International observers said Tuesday's election was largely fair but Odinga disputes the results, saying it was rigged. He has not provided documentary evidence.
There have been at least 24 deaths in election-related unrest, a rights group said on Saturday. But by Sunday the violence appeared to have largely abated, to the relief of Kenyans who feared a repeat of the violence that followed 2007's disputed election.
Around 1,200 people were killed then and 600,000 displaced after Odinga called for political protests that sparked ethnic violence. Regional trade was paralysed and Kenya's economy - the region's biggest - took years to recover.
This time, diplomats and regional leaders are urging Odinga, a former political prisoner, to concede. Their united stance leaves the 72-year-old opposition leader isolated if he chooses to maintain the allegations of election fraud and proclaim himself president. https://in.reuters.com/a...ction-idINKCN1AT0D0?il=0All my friends are heathens, take it slow. Wait for them to ask you who you know. Please don't make any sudden moves.

What's your position on RAO difiance behaviour in regard to election loss.

There are episodes of cognitive dissonance in the heads of the leaders but not in the populace!! Hahaha! I wonder how many people even here in wazua understand 'algorithms'. But my point here is the 'knowledge trumps belief' fallacy. One would think that there are such things as objective knowledge or knowledge that is independent of personal wishes and bias. Obviously such an assertion turns you into just another sensationalist 'blogger'. If it's about politics, realize that different interests will jostle for space even by whatever means, and that the big problem now and here isn't one of knowledge but negotiation for political space. By the way, I'd recommend that we speak a bit more respectfully about even those who we think are ignorant, or defeated.

From what we have seen in the news, all the violence this time is being perpetrated by police against a specific community. I am yet to see or read of a single instance where protesters have threatened human life. To the peace-preneurs, can you go slow because nobody is fighting except the police.
I have read a very interesting blog online today. We watched when Somalis were subjected to the same violence under the guise of fighting AS. The country also watched when every young Kikuyu man could be killed and be labelled mungiki and it was acceptable. In 2007, of the 1300 people who died, 700 were killed by police. Kalenjins were on the receiving end then with over 300 of their own killed by cops.
To the rest of us, let's wait patiently for the day when the state decides we are the enemy. Because it's coming.
Another lesson from the elections is that bigots bring out their true colours. I have been unfollowing very many of them on Twitter and Facebook. You are dishonest. And that's dishonourable Are you trying to tell us that the Police are profiling Kenyans based on their ethnicity before clobbering or shooting them? Be serious my fren.. Kindly give us one incident where the use of lethal force by police this time was justified. 24 deaths confirmed by KNCHR, a govt body. We are yet to hear of a single time police have been forced to intervene to protect life. The biggest threat to peace is the police force itself. When you break people's homes looking for protesters whom you then shoot dead, it's called ethnic profiling. In 2007, the mobs shot by cops in the North rift were targeting vulnerable immigrant communities. This time, not a single person has been targeted by protesters. It would help if you can refer to the national police service act.
I won't stand for president again, Raila says after Uhuru defeat http://www.the-star.co.k...r-uhuru-defeat_c1616076
Do not trust his words. Raila is not a gentleman. In his closing remarks during the Presidential debate, he wished Uhuru well and even said, "asiekubali kushindwa si mshindani". How long did it take for him to chew his words? Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.

It has gone deep into my thoughts. On very many things. I also thought the same. 2007 was the biggest con game of all time. The same strategies used 2007 are being employed again targeting the same nusu mkate arrangement. In 2007 the noise outweighed the facts. The truth was lost in the process. No Ostrich head in the sand option. What do you stand out for when you are already judged and lumpsumed with your tribe as a hooligan? You watch from the sidelines. You are one objective Nyar Migori. I recognise that you have been consistent in your overt condemnation of the beating of drums of war. It is also not lost on us here in wazua that in the run to the elections you criticized and mocked NASA/RAO multiple times to a point where many here began wondering if you were really still a 'NASI'. Poignantly as the election results began to point to a clear loss for RAO, we noted an attempt to whip you to "come back home" following your independence of mind. So you are not the typical NASI for whom the bell tolls! Just as absolute power corrupts leaders, so does absolute fanaticism blind the people from logic
