A dictator in the making. Firing a hospital chief because he found patients sleeping on the floor? How about providing better hospitals or better ensure that citizens are healthy...

Rais Magufuli is on to something good

Uhuru Day scrapped

he seems to be focusing on the basics, hope he continues like that - no need for mega structures, mega celebrations ... when your people have no roads, no access to water.

I also like the main opposition candidate, Lowassa resigned when he lost - that has taken off pressure from any tension that might have been present after the elections.

Wish them all the best.

Tanzanians are some of the most patriotic and proud citizens I have come across unlike Kenyans. They have a lot of self pride to their country.Scrapping Uhuru day is a big mistake. Magufuli should stop socialite tendencies and focus on long-term plans for his country. Most of the young people never voted for him and he needs to win their hearts by setting up proper structures.

smile Magufuli and socialite don't go well together, but I think its good, he asked the people to go and clean the country instead of the pomp that happens on that day - so he just canceled the pomp and parties that go on.

Some things are too much, like driving 600km across the country to save some money, but he is not heavy spender by nature - and as has been stated its like Kenya during the rainbow days, the good thing with Tanzania is that the politics is not based on individuals and Lowassa stepping aside from politics will help alot, unlike what Kibaki had to deal with - well hopefully if he has the energy to keep going.

Tanzanians will soon get very angry and tired with him. I see a dictator in the making. Canceling a country's Independence Day celebrations is crossing the red line. It is an affront to nationalism. It is treason. He should be impeached ASAP!

And the Siaya governor spent 20m of county funds to go to TZ and display that placard. Talk of stupidity.
