So you've tried everything.. and still feel something is missing. You work so hard, try so much, but you feel that all the effort you put in is not justly rewarded. Life to you should be much better.

There is great power to 'Come to me all ye who are heavy laden, and I will give you rest'. Imagine a 'peace that surpasses all understanding'.

Give God a try, what do you have to lose?

He is prepared for what we think is our worse! Mathew 8:23-27 says Jesus Calms the Storm

Our life which is nothing less than a boat is traveling in this earth on a journey to eternity. Just as in sea there are so many things – things that are good, bad, beautiful and ugly, our earth is full of goodness and sinfulness and in this journey we sail across on our boat.

When we are sailing, we do have furious storms arising in our life. A storm of sickness and pain, a storm of disaster that has completely swept our lives, we get worried and at this point we start finding “where is Jesus?”. He’s right there in that corner sleeping at ease. It’s not that He is not feeling the disaster and pain in our life. He is in our boat and He feels the same as we feel, but He is waiting for us to ask ourselves – Where is Jesus?

But Jesus who knows the end from the beginning, who is the alpha and the omega, the first and last very well knew that we will go through this phase of our life. He is prepared Himself for the worse that could come upon us and that’s why He is sleeping at ease. The moment you realize that the situation is out of control and is no more manageable, the moment we call upon Him, He wakes up just to make us sure that “I am still in control. I am still in business to make you something out of nothing!” and in a fraction of second, He who has authority over the heavens and the earth, the entire cosmos and everything that has been ever created turns the situation and makes us sail back smoothly.

That’s what our Jesus is all about. He is all there right near us and will act at the right time. It’s just that we need to abide by His words. His words say” Call upon the day of trouble and I will hear you”. Nothing is hidden from Him. He knows everything and He who knows everything and who has a plan for you and me, is well prepared to handle the worst situation of our life.

He is still in control of us; all we need to do is humble ourselves and remember Him, wait on Him and see how well He accomplishes His business in making you something out of nothing!

Sex and sexuality. We are sexual beings. Sexual thoughts and feelings are reflex ie We cannot say 'Let me now think about sex' they come to us.

It is only by accepting and recognizing them, that we are able to deal with them. God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, of love and a sound mind.

@Muheani

He is not just prepared. He ordained it. Nothing happens outside his will. He is not just a prepared participant in our trials, he is the author.

@Mukiri and others of this persuasion..

Say i take your advice to 'Give God a try' how do you recommend that i go about doing this ?

The bible commands that the Gospel be preached to all creatures. The Holy Spirit is responsible for the outcome of this preaching, but we try to do by the flesh what can only be done by the Holy Spirit.

Find time to slowly Consider these scriptures

Romans 8:8

Quote:
28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who[i] have been called according to his purpose. 29 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. 30 And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.

1 Corinthians 1

Quote:
God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. 22 Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom, 23 but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 24 but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

1 Corinthians 1
Quote:
26 Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. 27 But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 28 God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, 29 so that no one may boast before him. 30 It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. 31 Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.”[d]

John 6
Quote:
35 Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. 36 But as I told you, you have seen me and still you do not believe. 37 All those the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away. 38 For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. 39 And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. 40 For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.”

Then again here

Quote:
43 “Stop grumbling among yourselves,” Jesus answered. 44 “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them, and I will raise them up at the last day. 45 It is written in the Prophets: ‘They will all be taught by God.’

Consider this discourse Paul has with the Romans

Romans 8
Quote:
11 Yet, before the twins were born or had done anything good or bad—in order that God’s purpose in election might stand: 12 not by works but by him who calls—she was told, “The older will serve the younger.”[d] 13 Just as it is written: “Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.”[e]

14 What then shall we say? Is God unjust? Not at all! 15 For he says to Moses,

“I will have mercy on whom I have mercy,
and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.”[f]
16 It does not, therefore, depend on human desire or effort, but on God’s mercy. 17 For Scripture says to Pharaoh: “I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display my power in you and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.”[g] 18 Therefore God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to harden.

19 One of you will say to me: “Then why does God still blame us? For who is able to resist his will?” 20 But who are you, a human being, to talk back to God? “Shall what is formed say to the one who formed it, ‘Why did you make me like this?’”[h] 21 Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for special purposes and some for common use?

22 What if God, although choosing to show his wrath and make his power known, bore with great patience the objects of his wrath—prepared for destruction? 23 What if he did this to make the riches of his glory known to the objects of his mercy, whom he prepared in advance for glory—

Can we by your logic above also conclude...

Food and Eating. We are eating beings. Eating thoughts and hunger are reflex i.e we cannot say 'Let me now think about food' they come to us.

So are we eating beings as well as sexual beings... and what else ?

We are in truth, sinful beings, by nature objects of his wrath. But God chose to redeem some for himself.

Consider the words of Paul in his letter to the Corinthians on sexual immorality

1 Corinthians 6
Quote:
12 “I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything. 13 You say, “Food for the stomach and the stomach for food, and God will destroy them both.” The body, however, is not meant for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.

Explain how the portion of scripture you have quoted fits into your statement above on sexuality.. kindly.

Mtu Biz,

Today at dawn as I was commuting I chanced on a preachin programme on Radio Jambo and I heard a guy with a funny accent from Universal church.

I thought I could listen and I so did.

He was persuading listeners who are suffering from financial issues, etc to go to his church.

He even had 'testimonies' from women who lived in Mathare in box houses who had moved to stone houses after trying out God in that church.

Then I come here and read something along those lines ati "Life to you should be much better ,,,,,,,, Give God a try,,,,,,,,,,"

I remembered that God's character has been maligned so much that its now fashionable to make Him an atm.

He has been moulded and re-cast into a one-stop-problem-solver.

@Muriel

The Gospel is a rare rare rare thing to hear preached these days.

No one wants any preaching to deal with the root of all i mean ALL of humanities issues. Whats the root ?
SIN, everything fell apart in Genesis 3.

Everyone wants to hear preaching that shows us how to feel better about ourselves, raise our self esteem, become a better you, and live your best life now.

SIN is what the Gospel deals with. Nothing more nothing less.

Consider the story of the rich young ruler in Mathew 19.
He had everything, he just needed to know (from Jesus)what he had to do to inherit eternal life.. to complete the picture..Then Jesus was delighted and said...pray this prayer after me..??

No ?

Jesus told him to do what he already knew the young man was not willing to do.. go and sell all you own and give the money to the poor..???

Why did Jesus do this? Why require such a seeker unfriendly condition? who would ever come to Christ if it meant forsaking all your wealth and give it to the poor?

The answer... no one, not just the rich young ruler, no one can come to God.
We do not, nay cannot choose him, he chooses us. We are quickened by his spirit in the preaching of his word and alas by the holy spirit we see our true condition and repent in dust and ashes.

Consider Pauls Letter to the Ephesians

Ephesians 2
Quote:
2 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;

2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:

3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,

5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:

7 That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.

8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
