Quote:
AfricInvest has increased its stake at Britam Holdings to 16.26 per cent, after acquiring 49.3 million shares worth Ksh450 million.
Last year, the private equity firm bought 360.8 million new shares from the underwriter at Ksh5.7 billion.
The aggressive buying spree means that AfricInvest’s total investment at Britam stands at Ksh6.2 billion.
Meaning when bull run returns there'll be less liquidity (since they are unlikely to sell) and faster price appreciation.
Considering the current price of 6.60/= per share and doing some simple calculations, it is obvious that some few paper billions have hitherto been lost by AfricInvest. Those who thought that it is only rookies who lose money at the bourse should think twice. This huge paper loss by AfricInvest proves that NSE can easily make billionaires shed premium tears too. The NSE is truly and surely not for the faint-hearted. A lesson learnt.
But Africinvest are large faceless corporations that don’t feel pain of loss paper or otherwise
They are not so faceless.

This was always expected given that Britam is heavily invested in NSE equities which have been bleeding big time.

And a big property portfolio with low occupancy.

What happened to the sweet candy
In the business world, everyone is paid in two coins - cash and experience. Take the experience first; the cash will come later
